Shield V Glock 43

I know this is a S&W forum but that nasty G work keeps popping up in here so I'm chiming in. Glocks a day late and a dollar short on this. The single stack 9mm train left the station about 3 years ago. This is old news and Glock ain't doing nothing new. Glock pretty much hasn't changed since they started. All the 43 IMO is a shrunk down Gen1 17 that has less than half the capacity of it's bigger older brother. Glocks are good but they are going the way of Colt. Worried about their military and police contracts and middle finger to the average consumer. Im pretty sure at this point Glock has stagnated.

Let me make sure I have this straight: Glocks are " going the way of Colt" ... Is Glock about to go bankrupt too? OMG!

Is buying a pretty handgun a tactic to 'dazzle' your attacker?

Yes. When you draw your gun, your attacker will theoretically be immobilized with envy for a few seconds...that's when you fire. His open mouth will provide an excellent target.

That might work but my method is better. When I pull my gun from the IWB holster my pants then fall down and I shoot him while he is laughing. I did but Perry Suspenders now have to change my method of uncovering to draw as my fingers catch the suspender strap. Don

Perry Suspenders....I live in the town where Mr. Perry lives and invented them.

They are still having problems with the glock 42. Go check out the glock forums. I considered buying one but went with the bg 380. Plus I have a 9mm shield and love it. I have no need for a g43.
My eyes are set on a m&p 45c

"They" are still having problems with just about every gun on the market if you read the internet. My wife's G42 has been flawless for over 1500 rounds. She is also a relatively new shooter as well and the G42 was her first semi-auto. She has had no issues with it whatsoever. She got it in February of 2014. You couldn't pry it out of her hands if you tried.

I am not a Glock hater by any means. But the Shield is "tried and true" and the product of a company that lacks nothing in reputation. And it comes in 40 S&W. Even when Glock gets the kinks worked out of the 43 (as I am sure they will) it will still be too little too late.

Nope has nothing to do with the bankruptcy mess Colts in but how they got there and Glock seems to be taking the same steps. You can only slap you commercial consumers so many times before they say you know what you don't care about what I want, and they move on to bigger and better things. Just the way things work these days. Glock gas been begged for several years for their take on a single stack 9 and what do we get a 380. Then realizing hey these people aren't brain washed koolaid drinkers after all we better give them what they want or this could hurt us in the pocket book, they give us the 43. Sorry Glock already over we the consumer have moved on. On a side note I don't know why we always devolve into a Glock argument on a S&W forum.

I'm not partial to any one make of pistol .. having owned several different makes right now 2 Berettas and a Tanfoglio series 88 but the Glock 's just don't feel good in my hand and have never shot one well .. and to me the looks just don't have any character ..

Passed on the G43 and bought a MP40c !!

Last year when I was in the market for a Single Stack 9mm Glock put out a 380, so the next month I bought a Shield and am happy with it. Glock waited too long and I have have 3 other M&P's to go with the Shield.

Same with me. I would have considered the Glock two years ago when I was in the market for a small 9mm. I am very happy with my Shield and have no interest in changing now that my Shield is nicely broken in. Sorry Glock.

Ok...it may be time to eat a little humble pie...just shot them again side by side - a bit more this time - while the Shield is more comfortable to shoot I'm a better shot with the G43 - probably since I've shot Glocks for almost 24 years.

Curious that since the 43 has been out a while I figure some have had the chance to shoot. I also figure most here have shot a Shield. I am wondering how the two stack up accuracy wise side by side.

I haven't shot a G43, and don't feel any particular compunction to do so. One day, someone at the range may offer to let me try one, but that day hasn't come yet, and I wouldn't go out of my way since I'm completely happy with my Shield.

And I've not seen any reports where anyone put the two to the test in something like a Ransom. But neither is exactly a target gun. I think this quote is pretty much going to be the answer for a lot of the questions about accuracy:

....probably since I've shot Glocks for almost 24 years.

I shot Glocks for about 20 years too, but did most of my practice with a M1911 just because it is a pleasure to shoot. I always had to work on aligning the Glocks, but the 1911 just pointed right for me, and the M&Ps, with the same grip angle, do the same. But Glocks point right for some people, and they don't suck, although they've got a distinctly unprepossessing look to 'em.

And given that you can put an Apex trigger in a Shield and still keep the cost near or below the G43, you might resolve the major cause of poor Shield accuracy for many people.

I haven't shot a 43 and have only held one briefly. I agree that the Apex is a nice addition. I have a shield with and apex sear and its a fun accurate gun to shoot. I just wonder if the 43 is as accurate. I know they are all "combat accurate" but that's an excuse and no fun.

A lot of people making comparisons between the Shield and the G43, who haven't shot the Glock and don't own one.

I've owned both. I still have the Glock. The Shield cracked and is no more. The Glock is still going strong.

The G43 costs more. It's worth the difference.

In the scheme of things $100 difference is nothing. I own a xds, kinda wish i had the glock

Is the bore axis of the Glock closer to the top of the shooter's hand than the Shield's bore?

Glock guys always seem to be impressed with the packaging of "their" weapon such that the bore is lower than any competitor's weapons.
