I think at least a single position rail would be a great addition to the Shield. I'm looking for a good concealed carry gun and I'm at a toss-up between the XDs and Sheild .40. I like the slim line of both guns but I like a safe action gun, not a thumb safety. I also like the standard fiber optic front sight of the XDs but not the low capacity of a .45 ap single stack (only 5 rounds... Not good.) I'm liking the Sheild the more and more because of the 6 rnd and extended 7 rnd mags in spite of the thumb safety.

Well, I have the opposite opinion. I specifically bought the Shield as a CCW pistol, and as such, I have no use for a rail on it. In fact (call me a curmudgeon, my family does) I don't like rails on pistols in general. I wish all pistols came with the option of having a rail, or no rail...I like the clean, classic lines of a smooth dust cover...although, I guess "classic" is a bit of an oxymoron when talking about polymer pistols.

Anyway, back to the Shield...since I bought it for CCW carry, it won't have a light attached...so, no need for a rail.
