shimming scope mounts

Has anyone installed a 1" riser to mount a scope a little higher over the receiver? if you did, did you have to shim the rear scope mount? if so approximately how much?

I figured it out, I was trying to boresight my rifle while I installed the 1" riser. I just wasnt sighting it in at enough distance...anyway I think that is what it is...sometimes I get ate up with Dumb@$$ syndrome!!
