When shipping ammunition by FedEx/UPS be very careful when choosing a box in which to pack the ammo. A "good, strong box" is subjective while federal law is not. These shipments have to be made in accordance with FedEx/UPS rules AND federal law. The required strenght rating of the box depends on the weight of the ammo being shipped. Check the carrier to determine the box strength required. As I recall, ammo weighing not more than 20 lbs can be shipped in a 200 lb rating box. If the ammo weighs more, a box with a higher rating is required. The problem is finding boxes with higher ratings. I recently divided an ammo shipment into three different boxes because I could not find a high strength box in which to pack all the ammo. And I know people have shipped over fifty pounds of ammo in a 200 lb rated box; but I am not prepared to take the risk.
