Shipping date please?

Could anyone provide an approximate ship date for a 38 Spcl M&P serial 289309? I note that it has a very short 3 line address and patent dates on top of the barrel and they barely fit on the 4 inch barrel. The gun is a nice all matching example and the barrel is proper 4 inch, not cut down. My earlier M&P 251400 is also a 4 inch and a longer 3 line address and patents is on the right side of the barrel. Unusual or normal? Ron

264678 went out March 1, 1917-----354467 on November 16, 1920----yours likely somewhere in between. Perhaps someone will be along with something closer on either side.

I'm confused, Ron. To what are you referring when you talk about the "three line address." Usually we mean the stamp on the side of the frame, which started in 1948. But you mention the barrel. Can you post a picture?

Hi Jack, The 3 line address to which I referred is, indeed, on the top of the barrel on #289309. It is 4.7 cm long and barely fits on the 4 inch barrel. In fact, it starts at the very back edge of the front sight and ends 1 cm ahead of the frame. The barrel has not been cut and is in pristine condition. I was just about to start a new thread relating to this barrel address. It seems so awkward to try to place this address and patents in such a short space. BTW, the patents are the '01, '01, '06, '09 and '14 ones. The S&W address makes up the first line and patents make up lines 2 &3. Was this common on these early 4 inchers or something was tried and then abandoned? thanks for input. Ron

The .38 M&P from the teens isn't my best area of knowledge. But there are guys here who can speak to the address and patent date placement. I'll leave the answers to them.
