Shooters Shop owner says gun debate lacks common sense

"I don't have a problem with Obama saying we have to do more extensive background checks," said Nugent, who has run the gun shop and range for the past 14 years. "Clean up the private sales. That makes sense. You should know where the guns are."

Get rid of private sales so we can pay their $50+ transfer fees

Mayor Tom Barrett, who has strongly backed Obama's proposals, has talked with Nugent about gun issues. A spokeswoman for the mayor said Barrett believes Nugent is a responsible business owner "who is trying to do the right thing."

When the anti-gun Milwaukee mayor says you're ok........

Nugent said he could live with a law banning military-style assault weapons.

"I would be OK with that," he said. "I'm willing to take the trade-off if it would do any good. But the problem is it doesn't do any good."
Doesn't mind making money off them those with the extra large price tags that were on all the ones on the wall even before Newtown.

He described a small woman who wanted to buy a .45-caliber revolver. That's a heavy gun, Nugent said, adding there's no way she was buying that for herself. So he wouldn't sell it to her.

Seems sexist to me, why can't even a smaller woman handle a .45 revolver?

I bought my S&W 4003 there and when I went back to pick it up, I was treated like I was bothering them, even though I was the only one in the store.
They get no more of my business.

The boat I work on docks in Milwaukee for the winter . I've used their range . Everything in that store has an obscenely high price tag on it . Like a 15 - 3 with a $900 tag on it . Like I said I'll shoot there , but won't be buying .

Not me!
With his attitude about gun rights I wouldn't even shoot there. The man does NOT deserve a single dime of my money. :(

To me he switched from being part of the solution to being part of the problem and became another anti so he can further fill his pockets and suck up to politicians.:( :( :( :( :(

There used to be a dealer in MD. like that. Big supporter of " Stocking Dealers Assn." Totally agreed with Bill Clinton that there were too many FFLs. Wanted to shut down any dealer with out a store front. Also said all ammo sales should be thru a dealer. No internet or mail order. I wonder who he thought would benefit from those ideas? I would not even go in his store.

I haven't gone there in years, the old owner was a nice guy this new group is not customer friendly. They are usually 3 times higher in price than any where else. I go to Shooter's Sport Center in Racine and use their range.

You should ride out to Fletcher's in Waukesha, Better range, cheaper to shoot there and nicer people.

I like them too. Haven't been there since I stopped working in Burlington.

"Clean up the private sales. That makes sense. You should know where the guns are."

The purpose of background checks were to prevent those unfit to purchase firearms from purchase; it was not meant to keep track of them.

"All guns are killing machines. Here's the thing: I can take a bolt-action rifle and take an elephant down because of the size of the bullet," he said. "But an AR-15 will just . . . (anger) an elephant. That's where the argument falls on deaf ears."

Nugent said he could live with a law banning military-style assault weapons.

An AR can't kill an elephant therefore they should be banned? I don't get the argument or what point he's trying to make. When did elephants come into the equation?

Perhaps he should look into his own 'common sense' as it seems to be very shallow. "Assault rifles" are rarely used in homicides. Mass killing incidents don't happen very often compared to other violent crimes. Restricting sales of these rifles only makes the public more helpless. We don't know how many of these rifles are used in home defense but I suspect it is considerable.

I tried not to get political but wanted to express my critique of the person's logic in the article.

One of my LGS owners wants them to ban private sales. Then he gets all the business and all transfers. I called him out on this as being selfish and told him that private sales were not hurting his business. (evidenced by his inventory being depleted beyond healthy and as a single employee owner he has been selling 50+ guns s per show ) We had quite a heated discussion on this as he is a pretty good friend too. It's interesting how many who are pro 2nd amendment have an agenda or slant to it that benefits them/ their business.

Shooter's Shop

As a former customer of the Shooter's Shop, I have taken my trade north to Woodland Iron in West Bend. No range but honest and fair dealing.

Sad to say the staff at Shooters Shop have taken arrogance to a new level.
