Any of you folks out there remember those 12 gauge rounds that shot out a little rocket "???" It flew overhead and exploded a ways off??? I want to say they were at one time called star poppers or something similar. I also seem to remember back in the mid 70's hearing about them being used for crow hunting, to make them get up and fly towards the blind. Anyone remember these things {correct name??} and are they even still made??? Thanks for any info in advance.

I bought some about 15 years ago. I think they were called "Cracker shot", or something like that. They were used to scare geese away from airport runways, fields, ets. They were expensive at that time, ($1.00 per round).
I bought a box just to play with, but the projectile was too light to actually hit anywhere close to your sight-picture. I ended up by using them on New Years eve.

Maybe that was the real name.
Standard 12ga 2 3/4" shells.
You fired them in your regular shotgun. They launched a small projectile out to about 75 yrds,,maybe a little more IIRC where it exploded in the air (if you held the muzzle at the right angle!).
Supposed to keep the birds out of the corn and such but they got used to the noise after a while.
More of a source of amusement for the shooter than any usefulness in bird control.
Don't know if they're still made. If they are, you probably need an FFL and a note from your Mom to possess the things.

My list from about 2006 shows six makers of "Bird Bangers" in the US and Canada. May be more or less by now. Used at airports, some USAF bases and at fruit orchards for scaring off birds. I think most airfields have now gone to propane cannon noisemakers. I know of one in-bore explosion.
