There are a couple of world-class schools in Tulsa, OK that are especially good. They don't sell real estate or some of the other side projects of some other schools. They just teach and host competitions. I have direct experience with them and shoot competitions with several of their instructors.

They have courses for everything from Defensive Pistol 1 up to full auto swat training.

I've been to Thunder Ranch several times, handgun and urban rifle. Wife has been twice also.

Several of the firearms trainers who work for the Sheriff's office I do, have been to a bunch of the better schools/trainers and say Clint Smith is the man.

If Jeff Cooper was still alive I'd flip a coin, he's not though.

I took Ayoob's LFI-1.

Very illuminating.

Shooting schools

I wouldn't advise it.

For many years it seems there were primarily just established schools, Gunsite, Thunder Ranch, etc, however, after 9/11 and an emphasis on security, training, etc, they seem to have popped up everywhere. I know a couple of guys around here who are instructors at some of the local 'schools,' I seriously what kind of training the students are getting.

I've only been to two, Thunder Ranch and Valhalla and have enjoyed them both,

Not sure what kind of training you're looking for ... Run'n'gun with a pistol? Run'n'gun with a carbine? Long-range marksmanship?

I'm an instructor with Appleseed and think it's about the coolest thing since sliced bread. Marksmanship with rifles with a healthy dose of American history. Drop me an email if you want some more details.

S&W Academy was where I started.
Valhalla is excellent.
I recommend a quality school based on your needs on a regular basis.
I haven't been to Thunder Ranch but it is on my to-do list.

LFI & Gunsite were worth every penny and then some. Gunsite has expanded quite a bit since I was there 8 years ago. I'd like to train with Clint sometime.

I trained for a week with John and Vicki Farnham once. Even though I was pretty salty at the time, they really helped me improve. I'd love to train with Clint Smith.

Can you put up a link to the website?
Thanks

Gunsite, 1989. Sent my then 20 yr old daughter there in 2002.

Better use of time and money than constant accumulation of show-and-tell toys. Wish more people would go to find out what they don't know.

Good luck, a quick search seems to indicate that these classes are mostly booked. Sure is something I'd like to do though. I'll do some more searching in the morning. I'd like to find a good school within a reasonable drive from Michigan.

I went to TDI in Ohio last year and it was most impressive. I may go back this year because I enjoyed it so much. The training was first class.

I've been to a number of schools and thought they were all worthwhile in different ways. The two that I thought were the most useful were John and Vicki Farnam's and Massad Ayoob's Advanced Stressfire.
