Shopping for auto insurance...

They all start to get greedy, after you have been with them a long time.

I check rates every two years and talk to my insurance company, to make sure they
know that I want the best price.

One home insurance company man was dumped, with a new bill cost, that told me that he wanted
Lobster, Filets, oysters and cheese cake for his meals.

It pays to shop around and keep them on their toes.

Insurance cost here is higher than a chinese balloon. I insure through a local co-op that only insures in VT and NH...said another way, no hurricanes and less densely populated area. For my home, barn, 2 garages, office building, a late model F150 and Dodge Durango, and my new Kubota tractor...$142 a month on autopay...outrageous!

What happens if the claims exceed the amount that the coop has to pay them?

I've been with USAA for 55 years now. Still satisfied. We've had three deer claims, multiple windscreen claims, and one collision (well, actually two) as the wife backed her car into the side of my car. Rep said they get that more than you'd think.

Every year I get two refunds from them. One based on how well the drivers do in keeping claims down for the year and the second is based on the fact I have been a member for over 40 years. Together the rebates pay for almost half of my insurance on our two autos.

I do have Hagerty for my classic 1966 Mustang Fastback. And they have been pretty good. I guess it helps I've had no claims with them for 10 years.

I pay $130 up from $118 last month for 2016 Superduty a2020 HD Triglide and a renters policy with a flood policy and a gun policy from State Farm.
I got bumped into several years ago by someone with insurance G. I called the claims department. I was told to be at the Olds dealer ( it was a Ford) at 10:am next Tuesday on the other side of town. No way I could be there. I gave them a street and cross street where I parked. They needed an exact address to come. I called State Farm. They said we will take care of it. I dropped my Road King in a parking lot and the handle bar hit a car. Made the report, no charge and never heard another word about it. The next week I traded for the Triglide.

It is definitely worthwhile factoring in the quality of service in addition to the price. I spent over 20 years beating up on insurers in a personal injury practice; my own clients' insurers (medical payments, uninsured and underinsured coverages, etc) were often bigger stinkers than the guilty parties'.

Be careful with Insurance Company P. They like to give you an amazing deal for the first 6 months and then raise your rates to more than you were paying with the original company.
What I want to know is my wife has now been working from home instead going to the office. She did drive a lot of miles a week and now only drive very little.
When I called about a discount the insurance company told me I was SOL.

I've been using NJ Manufacturers Ins. for years now. I've had no trouble at all with claims i.e. winshields, front parking lens. Thea also offer free, roadside assistance which I have used a couple of times for dead batteries.
Get my Home Owners Insurance discount too. A couple of rebate checks per year because it's a mutual insurance company. Plus the increases are minimal.

Ours went up 30%, no tic or acc.
Prob due to : car jackers, hit & run, stolen Kia & Hund., ect.
I think lic. and ins. should be tied together, somehow, for real.

Criminal catch and release programs must be driving the cost of car insurance up; car thefts in my old home town in CT are through the roof, and it's nearly all repeat offenders doing it, often young male juveniles that are immune to adverse legal consequences. They steal 'em, drive them for a few days, then crash them for fun, then repeat.

Buddy just sent me a clip his wife's dashcam recorded this morning at a light here in Vegas. Her and the car next to her gave it two seconds after the green came up before they broke the white line. Yep, guy came through on the other street from the right at Warp 9 on what had to have been a red for at least five seconds. Only just missed the car in the next lane.

We've had this bovine excrement going on since COVID. Those who were still working during COVID got used to empty roads and cutting their commute in half by speeding on largely empty roads. They just refuse to go back to normal.

I am just amazed by driver behavior on our roads these days...people do whatever they feel like doing. Wild lane changes, running stop signs and red lights, cutting people off...anything goes.

I have nearly been rear-ended because I actually came to a legal stop at a stop sign....unbelievable.

I have had auto/home insurance with Farmer Insurance for 50+ years. Rates keep going up and up and only explanation they give me is "we had a lot of claims last year because of the flood, tornados, hail storm, etc". My auto insurance 19 year old Tacoma and 7 years old Avalon went up $250 a year this past year.
I contacted a local insurance broker in town and I now have a new company with better coverage for $600 a year less for the autos and over $3000. a year less on the home.
Loyalty and low claims means nothing to the insurance companies.
Shame on me for for being loyal and sticking with them for so long.
Same with cell phones, been with AT&T for 20 years and rates kept rising. Called a while back to inquire WHY? and they said "we appreciate your loyalty" and that they could lower my monthly payment a little. They never did. Last month I went with T-Mobile and now get 2 phones with unlimited data, etc and save $50 a month.

Most agent get their salary from renewals.First time buyers are almost freebees. As the renewals roll in a good agent will accept that and make money from more rather than higher. I was with AmFam for 25+ years. Same great agent. He had tons of clients and made plenty without hurting anybody. And helped everybody. When He retired the new agent raised all the rates and expected every one to stay. Agency went defunct in 8 months and AmFam took over. Their agent was almost as bad. Went with Lib Mutual for 2 years, then They raised everything. Moved up here and everything went down.
The Govt needs to take the restrictions off all insurers and allow all Ins Co's to offer ins in every State. That would drop rates significantly.
