Short list semiautos for NY'ers? -- preparing for future

Looking for your opinions on MUST HAVE semiauto pistols/guns given NY's new gun laws. The law allows us to keep any 10 round mags that we own or obtain prior to 04/15/13. My thought was to obtain some 10 round mags for guns I do not own yet, then if I decide to purchase something (say 5906 for example) after 04/15/13, I would have legal mags for the gun. I ran this scenario past the State Police, via their helpline, and was told I would still be allowed to transfer a gun into NY from another state, just not any magazines above the 7 round max capacity.

So if you had to prepare for future purchases what guns would be on your short list?

Revolvers and guns with mag capacity of 7 or less are not of concern since we can still (for now) purchase these legally. I own Ruger and SW .22's, SW 3913, 1911 .45.
Thinking of Sig 220 & 239, Walther PPQ, M&P's.

I know this might be backwards thinking but just don't like having my list of choices shortened by someone else. Moving to another state is not a viable option …yet.

FNX or FNS 9 or 40, S&W M&P 9, 40 or 45 (c or full size), Sig 220 45, Good luck finding most mags.
 
Don't Sig 220s come with 8rd mags these days....... older mags. (W. Greman) held 7. How about a Sig 245 or 220 compact, only six but .45acp.

See you have a 3913. Smith use to have a 7rd. mag for the 3913/3914......flush fit steel bottom...... somewhere I have the part number. They are my standard carry IWB. Extra mag is a 8rd.er!

Don't know ......... did they ever make a 10rd mag (9mm) for the 6906 ....... weren't the "Shorty 40s" 10 rounds?

Beretta 92M has 8rd mags. the 92 full size (9mm) and 96 (.40) had 10 round mags 94-2004

I could be wrong, but I thought I heard that you can keep the 10 round mags for 1 year then you have to turn them in or sell them out of state. If correct anything you buy now will have to be turned in in 4/2014.
 
any magazine over ten rounds has to be either sold out of state or destroyed or permanently modified to 7 rounds by April 15th 2014. You may keep ten rounders but you can only load them with 7 rounds as of April 15th, 2013. After that you cannot buy 10 rounders, only 7.
 
Shield and S&W 45acp Commander Bobtail

Being directly effected by this new law. I have a Shield in 9MM (7 rounds) and a new S&W commander size bobtail in 45acp (7 rounds).
 
It's a thoroughly messed-up law.

My recollection is when the 1994 magazine ban went into effect, the .45 became much more popular on the assumption you might as well have 8 .45 ACPs instead of a smaller caliber. The OP has a 1911 and I would buy another.

Given the complexity of the dilemma you face in staying legal in NYS, it would seem no matter what you're moving somewhere. Either you move upstate courtesy of the State Police when they find 8 rounds in the 10 round magazine you bought , or you willingly move to the United States of America.

The choice, so far, is still yours to make.
 
The "low cap" mag guns that I can think of that are already popular in NY:

- Kahr K-9 (standard magazine is a 7rd)
- Ruger P90/P345 (7rd factory mags are still around)
- 1911 and 7rd mags
- Mecgar and Pro-mag are going to be releasing updated followers and mag bodies for 7rd limits on the 92FS, 5900, and PT92 [or so I have been informed by a dealer]
- M&P45 with a blocked body is also on the way

I know this is not a 2A area of the forum, but, S&W/Glock/Ruger/Colt/...etc. should all boycott NY and the PDs like how Barrett did with CA.

Force the states to rethink it if the manufacturers raise a stink.
 
Wondering if this situation means that NYers would be interested in trading normal capacity 5900 mags for ten round versions?
 
Is everyone expected to just lay down and bow to the regime in New York. Is there no way to fight this? I would think there is a way to stop this from actually becoming LAW. Has anyone or any group filed anything to stop this?
 
Thanks for the replies and your thoughts. I agree the law has really muddy'd the waters for law abiding folks. Yes, there is an effort to repeal the law by Senator Marchione and the NYS pistol & rifle association is planning to challange the law as well but this is a topic for another post.

Mostly I am looking for your thoughts on favorite guns that have 10 round or less mags available currently and are unlikely to have 7 round mags made in the future. Colt Woodsman, High Standard .22, HK p7, etc, for example. Mostly thinking about guns that are out of production.

Finding the mags may prove a bit difficult but worth the try while I still can.

I assume that manufacturers will make 7 round mags for popular current guns like m&p, XD, glock, etc. although I have limited interest in polymer guns right now.

4513 was on my short list before the new law..hopefully SW will start making it again.

S&W CS9 is a 7 round mag. SW 4513TSW is 7 rounds, as stated above 3913 is 8 but I have a flush fit 7 round one. My Sig P239 in 357 sig is a 7 round mag. I hope this helps.
I was born and raised in upstate NY. I will never move back. It's a great place to hunt and fish...but not worth the regulation and infringement on your constitutional rights. I hope those that have the opportunity move away. I hope those that must stay for whatever reason fight this with all their resources.

It's already a law. The emperor pushed it thru in record (read unconstitutional) time sighting the "imminent danger" to the masses if it wasn't voted on immediately. Even though 56 of the 58 provisions didn't take effect immediately. The process was a total sham. No debate. No time to read the legislation. Just pressure and coercion by the NYC libs. on the rest of the congress. Most of our congressmen are spineless twerps and total sheep.

A law suit was filed today questioning the legalities of the law on several constitution issues. There is also a class action suit in the works.

I spoke to 2 different people today in 2 totally different conversations who have actually had realtors go through their homes and are going to list them and move out of state. Both are lifelong NY'ers. Not an unpopular opinion these days.
 
I decided that if I get another semi auto pistol it would be another single stack 1911 in .45 ACP. Either that or (ick) a Glock 36 .45 with the 6 round mag. Until then though I have no problem carrying my Model 27 or maybe I will look for a Model 25 Mountain Gun again in .45 Colt. While this new law is terrible, I think it will not come to light until people start getting arrested for having more than seven rounds their ten round mags. I know it is a misdemeanor with 30 days in jail and $250 fine, the first time. After that its a $500 fine and 6 months in jail and its still a misdemeanor but it bumps up the scale some. I can't wait until they find almost no one is registering their "assault weapons" in a year. The big stinker is having to do a background check on each and every ammo purchase. Having read the law I know that the dealer will have to write the buyer's name, address, occupation and driver's license number and lot number for each box in a ledger in addition to calling up the NY state police's 1-800 number to do the check. It is going to be a train wreck. I know microstamping was being bandied about in Albany recently, which will effectively finish any businesses in this state. I know one dealer who is 75 and he is selling off his inventory and not ordering anymore, when he sells out he's closing shop. I know another dealer who is looking at real estate in Vermont. I have heard the local Wallyworld is pulling out of selling gun and ammo. This is just the beginning in this state, the worst part is it is well known when Cuomo (whose poll numbers dropped sharply in the last month) runs for President in 2016, Mike Bloomberg is considering running for NY Governor. If that happens and he wins every gun control proposal one can think of will get rammed through in this state.

I have literally traveled the world and have never found a place I would want to move to. And certainly no politician is going to change my mind.

The year that Florida was hit with 3 hurricanes right in a row, I spent most of that year down there on business. A local coworker had his house damaged heavily, and all his old trees completely destroyed. When I commented about how could you possibly live here, his answer was "the price you pay to live in paradise"

Haha.

To me NY is paradise. If need be, I'll switch to all pre model number hand ejectors. Not a bad idea anyway.
 
Have a S&W 22A target pistol with 2-10 rd mags

My 22A came with 2 10-rd magazines. It is a nice gun to target shoot with. But it does have a magazine capacity greater than 7. The club I belong to has a range limit of 5 rounds in the gun. That isn't a big problem since I'm allowed to have a bigger clip. They just don't want people tearing up the range with a lot of rounds at one time. Plus when doing target practice I find if I can't determine my group at 3 or 5 rounds, I need to focus on what I'm doing wrong in my gun control... feet shoulder width apart, good sight picture.. you know the drill... REAL gun control.

I have an inherited 1924 Liberty .25ACP that uses a 10-round clip too. I got a second clip at ammoclip.com. Just can't see the sense of having any semiautomatic with just one clip.

You might want to also get extra clips for any guns you may already have. Not that it should happen often, but it is always possible for a clip to get damaged and have to be replaced. Like one boss I had used to say, "Better to have and not need than need and not have."

Don't forget, there are rifles like the Henry Golden Boy that can hold more than 7 rounds in the feed tube as well. How do those fall under the New York law? Will Henry rifles be banned?

NY State Problem....

Maybe you didn't read the NYS Sheriff's Letter to the Governor nor the newspapers protesting this dumb decision. Sounds like some folks are going to give up and roll over on this one. Either protest, join the ranks of those that are mobalizing and/or leave the state. In the mean time, carry a 1911. But don't give up!

A guy I worked with moved to Vero Beach about 5 or so years back,he talked about it constantly on the job, buying a new house and all near the beach. The year he got there, his house took 2 direct hits from hurricanes within 2-3 weeks. Packed up and moved to Texas, inland.

I would Keep my beta-mags in my AR. 7 rds? If you can not purchase a 7 rd then the gun is being legislatively ( confiscated ) which is unconstitutional. Your choice is really simple- STAND and fight or move! I know job/family/home/etc, you have to make a decision on what is most important to you- your freedom or something else. I made a decision in 1993- I WOULD NOT COMPLY WITH NJ LAW, so we moved and got a job, bought a house and the rest is history. As I said it is simple- make a choice. I did not say that choice is EASY. I wish you the best. I have no 7 rd mags other Glock 36 + 1911. Be Safe,
 
You New York guys are just dreaming if you believe the round limitation will remain at 7. As soon as that idiot law goes into effect there are bound to be more insane mass shootings, or stabbings, or clubbings, or bombings... These radical politicians will never blame the people pulling the trigger. Always the gun,,,,

Your politicians will determine it happened because of the 7 round capacity so they'll make a new law and reduce the capacity to 3 rounds... then 2....then 1 .... then? It's all about control, folks! Just ask the people of Eastern Europe.

Quit voting in these BOZO'S who are using every method they can to disarm you. If you can't read the beginnings of a totalitarian system emerging in places like New York, Chicago and San Francisco you haven't been paying any attention....

I pity the folks that live in the anti-gun states like NY, NJ, Pa, Mass, Illinois & California.......33 years ago after my wife got her degree, she was offered well paying jobs in Illinois & NY, she turned them down then because of those 2 states anti-gun laws........ Now we are even happier that she did.

There is no house & no job worth living in those states listed above.
