My local gander mountain has a S+W refurbished shorty 40 for sale, it's original price was $1100 but has dropped to $799 in the last month. My question is can NEW ones be ordered and how much and is this worth $799. Are these performance center guns that sweet

These are no longer made. The Shorty 40 is an amazing firearm that is often overlooked except by savvy forum readers here like us. Hand fitted match barrels and very tight tolerances. Hard to say if it is worth $799. Current sales of Shorty 40's have been a little bit lower ($600-$700). I would be happy paying $799 for a minty model with original box and would not feel ripped off. I love my S40. There were several versions/series produced.

Here is a pic of my S40 equiped with trijicon nights and a Rosen ARG

If need a compact, .40 cal, double stack gun, and you want it to be made of metal, I don't think you can find anything better.

The Shorty 40 is by far my favorite 3rd gen auto, I've got 2 of them, one still new in the box. You can't find a better double stack compact. PC guns are indeed as good they say they are.

Orangehole, I thought I was the only one that likes the ARG, I've got two of them. One for my 4003 and another for my Shorty.

Here's a sample of my 1st gen Shorty 40, like OH's with Trijicons

Yes, they are gems. My Shorty 40 MK3 is probably my favorite S&W semi-auto. One of the best pistols S&W ever made, in my opinion.

Sadly, they haven't been made in a good number of years - I think there was one last limited run in 2000.

Get it

So just which Gander Mtn is this gun at? Not that I would run there and offer the mngr $700 cash and run off with it and leave you scratchin your head if you should've gotten it. I'm just kinda curious. These are great guns and if you buy it and don't like it I will buy it from you for your purchase price. 100% guarantee on your money. Buy it, you'll love it. Once you get it you'll start looking it over and be amazed at what a high quality gun they are compared to todays plastic wonder guns. There is alot of handfitting on these guns and they are just plain nice.

Sam,
Do you have any trouble getting the barrel back into the bushing(slide)? I finally took mine to the range after 18 years and had some feeding issues. After cleaning it I could not get the barrel back into the bushing. I don't want to force it.

Thanks,
Bob

Which shorty forty is it? The original or the newer MK? The original had single stack mag (9 ) rds, SN range was 0-1500. I have PCS0573 +PCS0574. They have a front tritium sight and were purchased early in 1993. Be Safe,

Gem. Buy it, shoot it, love it. Regards 18DAI

FYI, Mags are $48 and very few left in stock.

Don't have the .40 (never been a fan) but do have 2 PC "6906/Shorty 9"in 9mm......... all I can say is buy it.....

If I feel I want/need more than a 3913 one of these is my EDC. backed up with a 15 rd. 5906 mag sporting the grip adaptor

You should be able to use the Smith Grip adaptor to use full size (11rd.???) .40 mags. ; should allow you to pick up some cheap used mags.

I've have PCS0656. I bought it around 1993. I'm just now getting around to shooting it!

I made an "offer" to buy an S&W 952LS to a sales guy at my Gander and he was insulted, not at the amount, but at the fact I even assumed they would deal. He said it was for sale at the marked price and that was it. So I bought one somewhere else.
