I shot my first 44.mag reloads today. 200 hornady xtp bullets, Winchester brass. 8.0 gr. Unique. Shot very well. Dead on. My wife shot it and loved it!! I bought some 240 Keith lead bullets from Missouri bullets and they my next reloads... can't wait!!

Those sound like Specials loaded in a Magnum case.

Nothing wrong with a 44Spl! One of my absolute favorites to be sure.

In a magnum case, try a 240g cast SWC over 7g W231/HP38. Very sweet load.

Ive heard u start low and work up to high loads. First ones sure shoot good!!

Always nice when the first load works out for you.

A good starting load is always nice to find...............
mostly right off the bat with minimum powder and bullets going down range.

Have fun.

True! I only recently started loading 38 special after a fair amount of experience loading 30-06 for my Garand.

So far, my most satisfying loads have matched the starting load listings in the Lyman 49th Edition Reloading Handbook, for a variety of bullets and powders. At first, I tried to duplicate some Federal +P commercial ammo that works well in our revolvers. For me, making accurate, higher power loads has been particularly challenging. Admittedly, now that I have scaled back the loads, this last weekend was very encouraging. :)

You seem to have already mastered details that I may still be struggling with, particularly in the realm of crimping and case cleaning.

Congratulations!

Congrats on your first reloads! I still remember mine: Unique and 158 lead for .38 special.

I have to admit though, as a reloader of .44 Special, when I read your load, I literally said out loud, "that's tame as [expletive]." :D

Were those your very first reloads, or just your first .44 reloads?

If those were your very first reloads, excellent work! It sounds like you did the required studying beforehand.

If those were just your first .44 reloads, also, excellent work! You're going to discover, if you haven't figured it out by now, that the mighty .44 Remington Magnum is one of the most versatile cartridges there is.

My intro into the world of reloading began with the .44 Mag, and the load you started with sounds a lot like the one I started with, 8 gr. of Unique and a 240 gr. SWC. That was a long time ago, but I still remember it well.

Anyway, congratulations!

It was the 1st reloads I have ever done. I wanted to start with a mild load. They shot very well.
