I found a S&W SW99 9mm. It comes with 4 grips, 3 magazines and the blue plastic case. The gun appears to be well taken care of, no papers our manual (not important to me). I want to add a semi pistol to my collection.
He wants $400 for the gun, is that a good deal?

Thanks

The deal sounds decent IMHO. But I don't care for the trigger in them. I was spoiled early on with the 1911's trigger and I just keep going back to them. I'm not sure if Walther or S&W came up with the trigger used in your gun but I just find it … Funky feeling. It's as different to me as the Glock trigger is from a 1911 but in a different way. See if you can Snap Cap it a few times to get a feel or even better if you can shoot it first. My cousin has told me hers is dead reliable even with her cast bullet reloads. I just couldn't get beyond the trigger feel enough to like it. It has a nice snag free built into the slide decocking lever. But I guess sales went over like a lead balloon as they were dropped pretty quickly. They were either too different or too far ahead of their time maybe.

I purchased my S&W 99 several years ago. The pistol has been totally reliable with a wide variety of bullet weights and shapes and very accurate. I particularly favor their unique ambidextrous mag release. Good buy for $400.

Thanks for your feedback. I read on line that they stopped making this gun to promote their M&P line. I really like that gun as well. I am meeting him this afternoon to make the deal. Cant wait to shoot it. I can add this to my semi auto collection. I have a Colt Government 1911, Colt Double Eagle, Glock 27 and my Ruger P93 DAO! I bet I shoot the S&W the most!

Thanks again, have a great weekend.

Buy. I have one and the 9mm version seems to be scarce, along with the 45ACP. I just shot mine yesterday and it is a great gun. I think the reason S&W never promoted this gun as well as their others is the simple reason that the name Walther also appears on the gun and I think for S&W, they couldn't promote another manufacturer, even if it meant them sacrificing a great weapon. That said, my daily CCW is a SW99-40. One, if not the only handgun with a rail that I like. Make sure to post pics of your new piece when you get it.

They are nice guns if you can warm up to the trigger, which I just never could. I love the decocker button and the way the cocking indicator on the rear of the slide. Those mags aren't easy to come by (at least they weren't when I had mine)...doesn't sound like a bad deal to me.

SW99

Grab it now. Same as Walther P99 which are sweet. You can usually get factory mags cheaper at CDNN.

Great gun worth more than $400. Why O why did I sell mine???? You can buy the 40 mags for $20.00 and bend the lips a tiny bit and get 15 rounds of 9mm in them. Never had any trouble with them on the range.

I really like my SW99. I have found it to be accurate, and if you like TDA triggers, the system in the SW99 is really easy to use. The price you list is a good deal for what you get.

My dept. had SW99's in .40 for a few years and traded up for M&P's after they were released. I never carried one (was issued a Glock 23 for plain clothes carry) but I knew a number of uniformed folks that either loved or hated their SW99's.

A couple of MAJOR differences that some people could not get past (going from the DAO 4046 to the SW99) was the Traditional Double Action with the long and heavy trigger pull for the first shot then lighter shorter trigger travel for second and subsequent shots until you decock. The other weird thing is the magazine release which are levers on the right and left side of the trigger guard (itself). Most people are used to the push button magazine release that you hit with your thumb. On the SW99 unless you have really long thumbs you will more than likely have to use your trigger finger to drop the magazine.

I was able to pick up with of the surplus SW99's when we went to the M&P's. Mine was in mint condition and shoots VERY well. The first time I shot one (not mine but a co-worker's) I was trimming weeds on the berm at our academy range at 7 yards. I haven't tried that with any other gun so I don't know if I could do that again. BUT I found that whatever I pointed the SW99 at I was able to hit as long as I did my part.

Let us know how you like it after you buy and shoot it!

I bought it for $400!

Love this gun, it appears to be in very good condition and well taken care of. Took it to the range and enjoyed shooting it. The trigger was a little different and took some time to get used to it, but I warmed up to by the end of the shoot. I actually did lots of research from your feedback on the forum and watched a few You Tube videos about it and look forward to taken it out again! Thanks for the feedback, looking forward to many years of shooting with this gun. Now I want the .40 or .45 in the M&P! :)

NEVER think this is a nice gun BUT I should get a Walther!! The S&W is just as nice as the Walther. Shoots just as good. No advantage what so ever in trading for a Walther.

My only complaint with my SW99, or any in general, I guess, is finding magazines that require a giving a kidney.

I made the trifecta earlier this year. Already had the 40 and 9 in the Walther version, and then picked up an almost NIB 45 for $400, earlier this year. The chap who bought it new put 30 rounds through it and then decided to get married and needed cash. Excellent guns and can get mags from CDNN without donating a kidney. Dave_n

I am trying to decide on a used one now. What should a lightly used one with three magazines and original box/case be selling for now? Just checking to see if the guy's pricing is about right. Forgot to mention that it is a .40 cal. SW99.

Thanks.

sw99

I own a sw99 and a mp shields a m&p 9mm Subcompact with a crimson trace a few other guns from different manufactures but the one I carry the most is my SW99 it has it all, a de-cock loaded chamber indicator safety in the trigger second strike capability ok trigger good accuracy and out standing reliability I can run just about any ammo thru it and she does not flinch I found plenty of mags higher cap than the ten round that work good. the gun breaks down easy and I'm sure that I could go on an on about this gun bottom line is other that the mag release that I don't mind, I think it is the most under rated gun of all times and for around 4 or 5 hundred you can get a great deal on a great gun.
