I am trying to work on my j and k frame collection. I found a 12-2 in as close to perfect condition as possible, but no box or papers. The bottom dollar price is $500, which sounds a little high to me, but how often do you see them in this condition?

Help me make up my mind.

If it's high, you couldn't prove it by me. I got a blue 2" SB not in perfect condition, but very good, for $425 a few years ago. Some time later, I got a near-perfect RB nickel 2" in a trade where probably both parties felt that they were trading about $500 or a little more. No boxes or papers.

If that 12 is the one you want, I would definitely get it.

$500 is a fair price for a gun in fair condition. Really good deal for a top notch gun. I'm hoping to acquire a 12-2 from a friend. If it works, I'll be trading a near perfect Ruger Blackhawk for it.

Not many people outside the forum know what a Model 12 is and confuse them for the Model 37 or Model 10,

They do have a small niche following but in very high condition $500 is about fair market value ,
Much better deal if its a nickel round butt or a 4" barrel in either round or square butt.

Square butt blue snubs are more commonly encountered.

A blue M-12 is one of the S&W's I have wanted for years, but never found the right one. Even if that is a little bit high (and I'm not sure that it is). So what?
When price is long forgotten, quality remains.

I have so far placed three Model 12's in my collection.

A 4inch RB, 2inch RB and 2inch SB.

This 2 inch RB 12-3 is NIB, only shows the test fire rings from the factory on 3 chambers. $550 with everything. I didn't hesitate at all.

This SB 2inch 12-3 spent it's life in a nightstand drawer, was fired only 12 times in it's lifetime with the original owner. No box or paperwork. One very tiny mar on the bottom of the trigger guard. No arguments at $425.

And this 12-2 4inch RB, another nightstand gun. From a garage sale by the original owners wife 2 years ago. No box or paperwork. Purchased by my wife for $175.

They are fine guns. Inspect it carefully. There are some really nice ones out there. And these will never be made again. They don't come around in excellent condition all that often.

I wonder how many still are in someones sock drawer or nightstand....
