Should I install a side-plate shim to my 627 PC?

I've been noticing some wear on the hammer due to it rubbing on the side. As far as I know, it has no hinderance to function (the gun shoots beautifully, easily the best gun I've owned). Just not a fan of sanding/filing down the hammer or any other part of the gun. The shims I'm talking about are here:
POWER CUSTOM : S&W SIDEPLATE SHIMS - World's Largest Supplier of Firearm Accessories, Gun Parts and Gunsmithing Tools - BROWNELLS

Unfortunately I have to buy 10..

I think sending it to S&W will really have the gun returned with them saying its to spec.

Here are some photos of the gun (about 200 rounds through and hundreds if not close to a thousand dry-fire practice pulls), you guys decide (marks are on right side of frame/hammer):

Note.. in the first pic.. it looks deep, but its mostly coloration.

Let me guess, you are lefty, I think you need to myself. Some will say know, that is drag on double action.

heh, not a lefty but admittedly heavy handed (hand model is my lovely girlfriend, not my hands by a long shot).

Perhaps I should make an order of those shims before any more cosmetic damage occurs.

I'd pay to take a couple off your hands...that way I get me some super sweet shims, and you recoup some of your cost ;) Just remember, the hammer shims are apparently different from the trigger shims.

Sounds good. I'll be ordering hammer shims. Thanks for bringing it up. It reminded me to double check my cart and noticed I put the trigger shims in my cart instead.

UPDATE: Ordered. If anyone else wants to get on this, $2.40 each. After shipping, handling, etc, thats how come each one comes out to. I'll send any interested parties their shims via first class postage. Purchased at Midway.

Just an FYI. I had the same problem with my 627PC along with a cylinder stop problem and a crown burr. I returned it to S&W. Got it back within two weeks with a new hammer, new barrel, and new stop spring and cylinder stop.

I'm of the mind that a hand assembled hand fit expensive revolver should not do that!! I would bite the bullet so to speak and send it back with a note and follow up phone call making it clear that it be fixed to your(their customers satisfaction.) This company is not called Smith and Bubba.

As far as saying that it is in spec that's absurd. Hammer hitting frame is not in the design nor build specs!! If Smith and Wesson commands premium prices for a "Custom" gun that's what you should receive....we as consumers are in a way partly responsible for the quality of every product we purchase.

I own quite a few handguns, all of them made before 1970 with a few exceptions, the majority of them are Smith and Wesson. Once you get accustomed to the quality of those older pieces you cannot go back to Smith and Bubba.

Hahaha, Smith & Bubba. I'll see how this works out. If this solves the issue, I'm satisfied. I'd rather spend more time having the gun in my possession and going to the range than waiting the 2+ weeks (I'm guessing even longer these days) for them to get back to me with the possibility of a slight sanding/filing or less.

I just checked my 627PC and it has a much smaller rub mark in the same part of the frame as yours. The mark on the hammer came off when I rubbed it, so I guess the metal from the frame got rubbed off - is the chrome plating on the hammer that much harder than the frame?

I'm going to watch it to see if gets worse, but so far it does not bother me at all.
