Should I join the NRA?

Aside from the "defending your 2nd Amendment rights" rhetoric, what does membership offer?

Now, I certainly don't want the King of England coming and pushing me around, but what other benefits does membership provide?

Well said Max. As a club officer, we made NRA membership mandatory to shoot at our club. But even if you selfishly look at just member benefits, it far outweighs other organizations such as AARP or United Commercial Travelers. Insurance, car rental, hearing aid, medical test, eye glasses, etc discounts not to mention the connectivity to all sorts of gun clubs and shooting sports. They are the guiding force for all measure of competition in shooting sports. And, if you ever go to an Annual Meeting you will witness first hand everything.

If you have any interest in the 2nd amendment freedoms you have to be a member. (And then VOTE).

It is a small price to pay. Your annual dues times 4 million adds up after a while!!

Just think, BIG brother doesn't have to regester guns, they can just confiscate the NRA member's list of names & have a ready made registry of owners.

I can hear the nay-sayers yelling "they can't do that, I got my rights" well, tell it to Randy Weaver or David Korish

I donate my share to the NRA programs but will not have my name on their membership list ever again. Been there, done that & have the junk mail to show for my trouble!

YES! for many of the above stated reasons. I'm a Life member, I got a spouse membership for my Wife, and I got a Life membership for my nephew.

10 Years ago I would have said Hell Yes!!, 2A would be history if not for the NRA but now I'll just say yes and also check out the other previously mentioned site GOA. I've been a member for at least 15 years but I'm still not happy about the NRA almost endorcement of Harry Reid last year.

Reckon how much trouble it would be for Big Brother to track-back to Thorneville, Arkansas and find out just exactly who this cussedemgun character who is posting on one of those radical right-wing gun boards is? Oh, have you ever purchased a gun from a dealer and filled out the form 4473, or whatever it is? Do you happen to subscribe to any right-wing radical magazines, such as guns and ammo? Have you ever purchased any ammo, guns, or gun related stuff with a credit card? You said you won't have your name on their membership list "ever again." Does that mean you have been a member in the past? Reckon they threw that old list away?

At the NRA show in Charlotte, there were, I don't know, maybe 50,000 of us in the building? I have no idea. But one of the speakers made the remark "lock the doors officers, all the 'nuts' are in here!" Got a huge laugh.

As someone else said, you are already on the 'list' and using that as a reason not to support the NRA is a little weak. If you disagree with some of their views, that's ok, but still support them. They aren't perfect, and I don't always agree with them myself, but they beat the heck out of nothing.

I am a registered Republican too, but I don't always see eye to eye with that party either.

Join the NRA, and vote. If you don't vote, shut up, you have no right to speak about issues.

The NRA used to stand for civilian marksmanship and safety. Now they are mouthpieces for the republicans. Nothing like having "2nd amend" equal "republican gun owner only". As a liberal gun owner the NRA tells me in all so many ways, we don't represent your kind of gunowner.

We have the Texas Rifle Assoc here in Texas that is similar. Wonderful to see gunowners but only republican gunowners.

So to the original poster, join up if they'll represent you.

I complained bitterly, several times, to the NRA about their boy, Harry Reid and their endorsement, many of us did, and I'm guessing it did some good. If you don't talk, no one will listen!.

To Simmer down.... Harry Reid now there's a real right winger. Agreed many more Republicans are members me being one but before you make that blanket statement you might check this out.
