I bought a boxed S&W M&P40 M1.0 with all the fixins' some years ago, replaced the tritium targets, and am considering a MagnaPort job on the barrel & slide. Is it worth the effort and expense or should I just trade up to a M&P40 M2.0?

I still shoot a 10 or 11 years old m&p 4.25 40swwith no barrel mod's . My new 5" has factor ports but I can't tell if it matters . Heck I have a hard time till telling the difference when shooting my wifes 4.25 9mm with 124gr underwood +P and 155gr underwood in my same size 40sw ..

IF your old 40sw shoots like mine old 40sw I would keep it ? Trade in going to be low and if you can find a ported 2.0 4.25 in the $630 range today you might have a good dealer . You might try to sell yours out right if 'easy to do in your state .

Good luck

I guess this is the one you want - M&P 2.0 vented40sw model -

I just paid $599 for a ported 4.25" CORE 9mm. You could swap for not much money.

Unless you're handloading using Longshot, AA7,etc. I don't think there be enough gas to make the ports beneficial.
If you trade up to a 2.0, you get a better trigger, better grip options.
If you get a threaded barrel, you can try a comp and see if it holds the muzzle down any better than just changing your grip.
I shoot the 4" barrel compact 2.0 and I run my 40sw handloadsnon the hot side. I found simply improving my grip made the difference for me.

Mine's not a .40 but I have a 1.0 9mm fullsize. I bought a 5" ported CORE slide kit for it a few years ago when they were around and only $350. I really wanted the optics cut but the rest was a bonus.

With standard ammo, I can't really feel any difference other than the extra weight of the 5" vs 4.25". Even shooting 124g +P doesn't yield dramatic results. The biggest change is how dirty my front sight gets.

One thing to factor in is potential resale if you ever decide to part with it. 1.0s in .40 are running around $350 (1 mag). I don't think you can recoup the cost of porting.

I had a 1.0 PC Shield 9 that was ported, frankly I bought that model as I liked the sights and the slightly better trigger. In shooting it vs a std Shield, any benefit from porting was minimal at best. Maybe it is more pronounced in larger calibers/longer barrels.
The one hurdle I had with it was ammo based, and many may not care either way. But a good portion of the range ammo was marked "not for ported use" and when checking that with the manus they had some brands with thinner plating that could come off. And other brands that were fine. Now was that just a legal cover their bum answer? Sure could be. But as I had that Shield pre covid when about any ammo was available and inexpensive I just used what worked for me and didnt have any disclaimers. These days that could be harder to do.
So while I had no trouble with that ported Shield (except yes it gets dirty) I wouldnt want to own one again. Just my .02.

I've got a 2.0 for sale on site now. I love it (just thinning the herd).
