This 99% like new with box and papers 15-3 is for sale near me. I have not seen it in person yet, but $600 would take it for sure. I do not need it but it sure is pretty. Thoughts on the value? You cant hurt my feelings...

I agree - six bills is at least $150 too high, probably more. I'd pass, and I love nickel Model 15s.

If the owner is a dealer, act like you don't want it,then offer him $450. At $600 he won't sell it anyway. Wait a week or two, then drop in on him again and make him the same offer.

If it's gone, so, you didn't buy an overpriced revolver. If he won't come down, forget it.

I hate nickel guns, so I am the wrong one to ask. They look great until you find they were refinished - and start peeling (Check under the grips!). Blued guns aren't appreciated here, either - I thought the move to SS was a Godsend. Besides, for that $600 you could buy a new 4" .357M - like a 620. You'd have a super '.38 Special' 7-shooter that happened to be .357M capable. I like to shoot my revolvers - blued and nickel guns age as I look at them - their fit/finish percentage decreases rapidly as I shoot & clean them. YMMV.

Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. At sixty, my eyes seem to have lost their appreciation for nickel & blued firearms.

I also think that is a bit high on the price but it looks beautiful! Follow mulehide9's advice and see what you can do.

I picked up a 15-3 nickel very very nice $350 this past spring......

You are the only person who knows if it is too much. I have often found a piece that I really wanted in the pristine condition that I prefer.

Remember....

"You can't pay too much....you only buy them too early."

Before you know it, the price you pay today will be the going rate. Life is too short...

Buy it!

I walked away on a 4" 625-3 a few months ago at one of my local gun pusher's place. They wanted $100 too much for a rough lookin' specimen.

They wouldn't budge, saying, "That's what they sell on line in auctions for." They added that they were putting on Gun Broker the next week and I told 'em I wished 'em well. I lied. Frankly, I began to detest the fellas that run that shop after that point.

They always act like they don't give a damn if a local person buys and supports their shop or not. Another Fugate . . . but in Georgia.

Damn internet . . . driving prices up like crazy on auctions where some fool pays way too much and sets the new "normal" price for used guns. Worse, the internet has given life to the businesses of folks who surely couldn't have made it in the old days where personality and good will were required for a business to last.

And yes . . . someone bought that "appearance challenged" 625, somewhere across cyberspace.

And yes . . . I don't walk into any gun shop without a wad of cash in my pocket and without looking for something I'm wanting to buy. So . . . that money went for another gun within a day or two.

On Dec. 23rd, I made another round to the local shops. However, as I neared that shop I thought, "screw it, I'm not gonna walk in that store and get greeted by those two unfriendly, unsmiling guys." Instead I just passed 'em by . . . as usual.

T.

PS: I have no regrets for passing on that rough 625 . . . though I WOULD have bought it for a shooter at the PROPER and fair price for a gun of that condition.

To the original poster I'd say this . . . the ability to walk away from a gun that's overpriced is a wonderful thing to acquire! Unless the gun is something you HAVE to have, offer the dealer a FAIR price (for him AND you) and if they don't like to be fair in their business practices, you don't need to help 'em stay in business.

Holy Smokes....$ 600! I've got a couple of nickel 15's floating around here and I'd be embarrassed to ask that much. Despite the GB reference, I can't believe that they traffic for that much on a regular basis. I'm with the rest of the posters and feel that $ 600 is at least $ 100 too high.

It strikes me funny that folks actually get mad at a man for knowing he can get more for an item and not coming down in price to thier satisfaction.

I doubt you would work for your employer for what the rate in mexico is

I wonder what ya would think/say if your boss would come in and say- hey I can get a worker for less and they are local so will ya take less compensation?

It just seems that if a merchant wants what the market will bare he is the enemy but God forbid its your job they are talking about etc...

And no I don't own a gunshop. I have both sold for high and low as I have bought that way...

I find a big problem is that we remember the old prices and they stick in our heads and anything more makes us think rip off...

I got news for ya the days of the 125.00 model ten being the norm are over Tom and with the current political and economic climate prices have jumped...

If your dealer sold that 625 for a higher price than you thought means your pricing is likely "off"

I too mourn at the price of things... primer and bullet costs make me cry

because I remember back when...

It does not make a man or dealer a "rip off artist" just because he sells at the higher or current pricing... your whining about it does make you a whiner though

The thing is know the market and buy the steals as ya find them- appreciate them but don't set pricing by the good finds alone...

the other thing is alot of these guns are desirable and not being made anymore as you know... as they dry up the prices are moving quicker too...

I LOVE nickel Smiths and would pay a bit of a premium for a nice one. But $600 is way out of hand for a 15. I probably wouldn't go much higher than $475. It's nice, but its just a 15.

Just wanted to say that $600 would be high in the midwest. As soon as you pay $600 you hear of a better deal right down the street. Be patient and you will find what you seek... Saveourguns
