Should I risk buying shield?

Not sure what internet the OP has been on, but there are a ton of people who own Shields and the feedback I see here and on other forums is overwhemingly positive. Maybe a Troll?

Shield 40 MAGS

Love my M&P 40. Either I am getting old or the mags are extremely stiff. Had a couple of feed issues. Ammo change for the feed issue, I could only get 4 rounds in the mags. Super stiff. I feel confident in the quality with S&W products. Just wonder if anyone else has same issues

My brother has a Shield 40, which has never given a malfunction. I was very impressed with it, but I bought a M&P 40c because I wanted those extra shots. Also no malfunctions after a couple hundred rounds so far. The Shield is lighter and thinner and shoots just as well - I may get one yet. They are great pistols. If you are worried about the guide rod, you can get stainless steel aftermarket guide rods.

Yeah... He hasn't even logged into the Forum since the 7th (the day after he started this thread.

I'm about to ask the Mods to close it, in a couple more days. ;)

Considering how many Shields have sold, you'd have to be pretty lucky/unlucky to end up with one that is dysfunctional. Who knows, maybe a lot of new shooters are doing something wrong to wreck these guide rods. It hasn't reached recall-worthy status yet.

That being said, if money is tight and you want a single stack 9mm, go with the Taurus 709. It's a great gun and if your opinion on guns is based on forum complaints, the 709 is leagues ahead of the Shield.

Funny you mention a Taurus 709. I purchased one when they first came out and it was a total disaster. That gun couldn't get through a mag without jamming up. I even sent it back to Taurus for repair and they sent it back saying they replaced the barrel. Went to the range and it was just as bad as before I sent it in. There was no hope for that gun.
