Should I trade my Springfield xds 45 for a s&w m&p compact 45 ?

I have both, and much prefer the Smith. A little bigger, but a LOT easier to handle, amd quite a bit more accurate, at least for me. Your mileage may vary, but I find the XDs very temperamental and hard to shoot well.

Used to own a M&P 45c. A friend owns an XDS .45 that I have shot some. I didn't really care for the 45c - really bad trigger, a few fails to feed, and only so so accurate (though accurate enough for its purpose).

I shot the XDS better, seemed a little more concealable, and has never missed a beat according to my friend, with about 5 or 600 rounds thru it.

If your XDS shoots good for you, I wouldn't be looking to trade it. Like scattershot said above, personal choice, how it works for you...

Keep you XDS and get a M&P if you want.

I own three S&W two M&P's and a SpringField XDM in 45. Like them all.

The only guns I did not care for were a FAL in 308 and a Taurus m-62 pump both of those guns have moved out of my safe and onto other owners.

Why are you comparing the XD-S to the M&Pc? They are 2 different animals.
The XD-S45 is more comparable to the Shield45.
BTW... I prefer the Shield to both the XD-S and the M&Pc... and I (normally) like the XD/XDm platformes. :)

My XDs 45 was my first tupperware gun. I was amazed with it's accuracy, ease of carry and how great it shot. I wouldn't trade it at all. Later I bought a M&P40 FS and that one is a great pistol also. Much harder to carry concealed but I'm now selling that one either. Decisions, decisions

Keep in mind that unless the gun is rare or an antique you generally loose money when you trade or sell. So unless I am really hard up for cash or really hate a gun in my possession I won't sell or trade.

As to the question of XDs vs M&Pc you may as well be asking the question blond or brunette. No doubt there is even someone who prefers red heads.

:) Then there's me, who is of the opinion of, If I haven't shot one of my pistols in over a Year, I put it up for adoption, in hopes that it will find a new home that will take it to the range often and feed it lots of it's favorite ammo. :)

I had a XDs 45, and traded it away. Got it right before the recall :-(.

That said, while I had zero reliability issues with it, I was not accurate with it at all. Am far better with my G30.

Different guns to be sure, but the XDs and I didn’t mate well. Sometimes man & machine are made for each other, sometimes not. It may be different for you.

Before you trade away the XDS 45, borrow or rent the M&P 45, send a couple hundred rounds down range. The whole thing is personal preference. Both have their pros and cons. I like chocolate ice cream you may not.
I personally prefer the M&P Shield .45 acp. Let us know which route you choose.

I would do the trade but that’s because I’ve shot both and if the choice is only between the two, I’ll take the M&P.

I’ve shot the Shield 45 and would prefer that over the XDS also. I really need to add a Shield 45 to the collection one of these days...

Do... Do... Add a Shield .45 to your collection! You wont be sorry.
I bought one last year put over 1,700 rds. through it and not one issue! Accurate, easy to shoot, (even for this old man ) easy to break down and clean and is one of my favorite pieces!

I bought the Xds 45 About 3 years ago .It has a real rough start on me as well as the gun . Alot real bad slide bites. And 1st 500 rounds where a nightmare fail to feed. I almost wanted to get rid of it. I had bought an M & P 40 c the same week and it was flawless . Not wanting to take a huge loss I worked threw it and kept the xds. I even had it up for trade here last year. I now carry the xds daily I W B. I find it carries very well is its saving grace.Would I like to have a Smith too yes .

The two are totally different type firearms. The XDS 45 is a single stack firearm who's primary purpose is CCW. The M&P45C, not so much. Obviously not as large as a FS but way larger than a Shield 45. For CCW, I surely wouldn't trade my Shield 45 for a 45C (which I own two). All my m&p45s shoot lights out, including my Shield.

Note the Shield took front seat to my XDS 45, which was summarily retired. The XDS is slightly more concealable than the Shield but not much. The Shield is simply more shooter friendly than the XDS. Both are on par when it comes to accuracy, but the Shield doesn't beat your hand up like the XDS does and the trigger is better.

Please tell me why I should. Benefits ?
Good question. That XDS is a nice pistol with a lifetime warranty, almost bought one myself. I'm a little rusty on the features of the XDS now, but I would start by comparing the XDS to the Shield 45, which has the latest 2.0 trigger and stippling. When I say compare, I mean side by side, personally holding each gun in your hand. I think you will find that the benefits of the Shield to be as follows:

1. Better overall ergonomics; I really like the way the M&P feels in my hand, nobody beats the M&P in this area in my opinion. XDS always seemed more chunky and less refined in my hand, but that's just me.

2. You get an additional round in the Shield's flush mag (6 rds) vs. 5 rds with the flush mag of the XDS. Extended mags are the same on both. Let me quickly add, they did introduce a XDS Mod.2 which I think has 6 rds.

3. XDS uses a grip safety vs. the excellent manual frame safety on the M&P. I am not a big fan of the grip safety on the XDS (not crazy about grip safety in general, but again that's just me).

4. With the Smith & Wesson you also have the added satisfaction of owning a gun that is made in the USA, vs. Croatia or whatever.

5. M&P used to be a better value, as in lower priced, but I'm not sure if that's still true. They do go on sale; I only paid $258 for my Shield 45 after rebate which for me is still unbelievable for the quality. I can tell you the accuracy on my Shield 45 is hard to beat at any price.

Both great guns, XDS does give you a holster and ammo holder in the box, which is a nice bonus for the XDS.

Here's a pretty decent review:

I've complained about this......

The Springfield has perfect hold, sights, trigger and everything important in a gun. But for some reason, I can't shoot it. I either hit a bullseye or miss the target. I just don't get it at all. Beautiful gun, can't shoot it.:confused::confused:

Such different sizes I would question what you want it for.
I had a Shield 9mm that I didn't shoot well at all. I ended up selling it. I loved how it carried however and wish I kept it and dropped in an APEX.

My recommendation would be to keep yours and get the other one when finances allow. As mentioned previously, you will only lose money with a sale or trade. IMO better off keeping it and getting another one at some point.

Tell me about the 40c. Ever carry it? Holster? Anything else? Just picked one up myself and interested in your experience with it.
