Looking for a shoulder holster for an N frame for hiking/hunting. The Sundles Ready Rig by Simply Rugged checks a lot of boxes, but wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations before I went ahead. Picture of the SR option for reference

I know some carry shoulder holsters daily but after trying a few they were just not for me. I could never get comfortable wearing one - not even for a J frame. Now, I was interested in it for concealed carry obviously requiring a jacket, but if one were to get one for open woods carry and did not have to conceal it, they might have better and more comfortable models available for that purpose. Thicker straps, a little padding and attaching to a belt could probably help as well for outdoor use.

I have been using shoulder holsters for over 40 years, I started with a used Jack Ass (Galco). I do not care for them to be anchored to my belt because that can cause binding. I now have over ten different ones for concealed carry and hunting. I prefer Galco but I always build them instead of just buy the packaged set I like the wider shoulder straps. This is the latest one I have been using. It is set up for two j frame 32 magnums. Hope you find one you like.IMG_3157.webp

I also have been using shoulder rigs for aout 40 years. I have tried a bunch and also settled mostly on Galco for the same reasons as Chief38. Nothing beats them when sitting in a vehicle most of the day or under a short jacket like an MA1. BUT…. a 6" N frame might not be a good match for a horizontal.

On the other hand, for hunting and hiking I use a chest rig and have had great luck with both GunFighters Kenai. They are comfortable, easy to draw / reholster, work well with a backpack or belt mounted gear. I find that the underarm like your picture are a pain with a pack and take up belt room. Also, not very comfortable after a long day on your feet.

I settled on these...

GunFighters for kydex

and Camp Curry for leather

He is reacable here and on Facebook. This man is great to work with for slight modifications etc. His work is among the very best I have used since the early 80's.. and at VERY nice prices. I carry a 5" N frame regularly in one of these.

Good luck in your hunt.

Been carrying an M&P 10MM 2.0 in one of their shoulder rigs daily for the last 2 years + 2 mags offside. Takes a couple months lead time, because it's handmade to fit your gun.

After seeing the picture of the holster you are considering, I believe the first question is are you looking for some degree of concealability with this intended hiking/hunting rig? The reason I ask is that if concealment isn't necessary, there are a number of chest or tanker type rigs that might work better. If you do want to conceal it, that particular holster design looks as good as any.
