I was lucky to be the highest bidder on these four S&W pieces, and I wanted to share a quick snapshot of them with you.
While they aren’t particularly rare models, there are certain subtle details that make them stand out - especially here in Europe.

  • The Model 27 is commonly seen with a 6" barrel, but finding one in mint condition with a 5" barrel, complete with box and tools, is a lot rarer. The S-prefix and serial number matching stocks is the cherry on top.
  • The Model 28 shares similarities with the 27. The 6" version is fairly common, but most examples are well-worn, which isn’t surprising given they were built as workhorses. This one, however, is in mint condition.
  • The Model 36 is widely available with the classic 2" barrel. This particular example features a 3" heavy barrel and is also in mint condition.
  • As for the Model 41, it occasionally pops up on auction platforms, typically with a heavy barrel setup. This one is the lightweight version - and once again, in mint condition.

Age-wise, my guess are:
  • 27-2, S310xxx, 1968
  • 28-2, N39xxx, 1970-1972 (cannot narrow it down more)
  • 36-1, AVS1xxx, 1987
  • 41, A116xxx, 1970

Thanks for taking the time to read!

I was shooting my 5" 27-2 and Model 41 at the range last Friday. I was using some factory (I forget which brand) .357 ammo that definitely made it's presence known and I heard a couple of the guys next to me speculating as to what I was shooting. They also found it funny when I picked up the 41 with CCI SV and of course it sounded like a cap gun in comparison. :)
