Show me your 3" 686+

Here you go:

Ditched that stupid sight shortly thereafter.

3" has fullstroke on ejection And is way more positive with full ejection over the 2.5" version!

Got my new 686+ 3" last week via mail order and am going to the range to shoot it for the first time tomorrow at lunch time. Does anyone have any thoughts on ammo? For the range, 38 and 357 choices?

Actually the rear sight looks different to me. Did you change it??
I have the interchangeable front sights on my power port gun so I know that can help.
And my 340 has the night sight. You'd like it.

I have a 3", 4" and 6" 686 and my 3" is a plus. I like them all but the 3" is my favorite. Accurate, handy and just a great all around revolver. Here are a few shots of it before and after I changed the grips to a pair of Altamonts, along with a family photo and a couple of holster that I made for it.

Just got back from the range shooting my new Talo 3" 686. I'm in love. Started out with about 50 rounds of 158 grain .38 Sp., switched to +P for a like amount, then went through 50 rounds of 158 grain .357 Mags. Handled everything without so much as a hiccup, and the factory sights were almost right on, just had to raise them 2 clicks. What a sweetheart.
And the best part was as I was packing up to leave the guy in the stall next to me asked what in the world I was shooting. Said it sounded like a cannon!:D

Quick shot before I clean her up. And yes I swapped out those factory wood grips for Pachmyars. Hated to do it but I just couldn't get a comfortable hold on the stockers.

Do a google search on hickok45 686 to see a couple of videos on a 3 inch TALO model. He really likes his. The TALO doesn't matter because the only difference is the grips, and hickok45 changed his to boot grips. I prefer boot grips on a snub carry revolver.
I liked my 3 inch 686, but sold it with the idea of getting a new M66-8 snub when they hit Gunbroker.

Best,
Rick

And they have forged hammer and triggers, whether that matters to you or not.

Just got mine today! Got it from my PX for $552 out the door. Can't wait to holster shop, but first, I'm headed to the range with a couple hundred rounds of 38 special and 357 magnum......Glad I reload!

Beautiful piece. I'm also in the market for a 3" 686, but have found the 4" to be a truly "all-around piece." The only thing for me would be if I wanted to carry the beast. Any experience in doing so with your 4" 686?

No. I find any 686 to be too large for concealed carry. Open carry is about impossible in Southern California due to the Democrat laws. If it were possible the 686 would be fine for open holster carry.
