The boating season has been particularly brutal down here in Florida as well. Tragic! I'm left with only a smurf gun that shoots ping pong balls (all the smurf gear floats).

Attached is a pic of what I managed to acquire in one day last weekend. I yielded about 34,000 rounds of .22.lr, as well as some 5.56, 9mm, 12ga(00 buck), 38 special and some
.380. The only thing in the pic that I will keep is the rifle. The rest will go to friends and family that failed to prepare for what is currently going on.
As for me, I have a little of my own if I can remember where I buried my pet elephant.

How much space is it taking up? How high? I got my about 5ft high stacked on one of those small square end table things (the type near a couch with a lamp on it). I'd say there's about 10k rounds stacked on it!!!

Having once lived in NYC for many years, where it is unlawful to possess more than 200 rounds in a household (NYFD regs), and where the firearms climate is chilly, I feel it is unwise to boast about or display what we own. Own as much as you can or want, but keep it to yourself.

Let me give you a hint: You're trying to put way too much thought into this. If you're good at math, you'll figure out its not saving any money because you end up shooting 3 or 4 times as much. You spend the same amount you just shoot a bunch more.

A couple of years ago my oldest had this scatterbrained theory that the ammo he shot was so cheap you couldn't save anything. He only shot 38s, 9mm and .223. Walmart had plenty. So I went to the basement at the old house and hauled out a reloading outfit I'd gotten for about $25 at a big flea market. The seller was sure it was for putting bottle caps on pop bottles. Its not my place in life to pump sunlight up their skirts, if they're stupid, I'll take advantage of it. So my son felt for a while it was stupid to reload the common calibers. But then when the prices started getting crazy about 2 years ago he became a true believer.

Worse, his AR had a twist that worked better with heavy bullets. Couldn't even buy the ammo in stores, it had to be ordered. And that's the big advantage of rolling your own. You can make them any way you want. And now that ammo is unavailable, reloading is the only way to find any.

So getting back to basics, it just doesn't matter what the price tag on the Walmart shelf says. If they don't have any to sell its just not a consideration. Only stupid people say Walmart price is $9.99 when they've been out of stock for 2 months.

But here's my prediction for the future. Sooner or later the retailers will be getting some ammo in stock. And when that happens the casual shooters will go back to relaxing. Again. The smart ones will buy 2 for every one they shoot. And the even smarter ones will save their brass.

But we'll have another of these unpleasant events where some crazy person steals a gun and goes shooting. And the same wishy washy politicians cry on TV and demand something be done. And the ammo shelves will go dry again.

Minimum of 1000 rds for each caliber, and double that for the common ones I shoot all the time, with enough powder, primers and bullets to reload them all a few more times.

I did that about 43 years ago. My young wife had never been exposed to reloading, but came from a gun family. She really liked the idea. Then we did some bullet casting and she thought that was great. So did her dad. My dad didn't cast, but he reloaded. For all the same reasons it make sense today, too.

So just spend the money. If you're not sure how much you'll like it, don't blow too much for an automated press. Just buy one that you pull the crank on. If you've got a house, just build a bench. I used old doors, cut down to my liking because they were free at the time. Back in our apartment days I mounted a press on a broken chair. But it wasn't very sturdy and finally gave up. So I mounted the press to a board. Yes, I had to budget, too. the big expense was the C clamps to mount the board to a more sturdy chair. I was still using that rigged setup in the mid 1990s after I lost my table made of doors. My wife took that and put our first computer on it.

So find someone who lives near you who will tutor you for an evening or two. You'll learn the idea a lot faster that way.

I helped a friend organize his ammo a couple of weeks ago.....the only count I got was on the 5.56, and the .50 cal.....over 18,000 5.56,......over 800 .50 cal lots of 308, 7.51, 9mm,38, 3006.45 acp, .22, 12 gage....and some AK ammo....hoarding?......or just prepared?

Looks like a certain unnamed Wal Mart might have some 22LR in nearby. But I never know whether to believe if their website is updated or not. I'm on the way to check it out. Pictures to follow.

Funny, some of you losing sleep over pictures of ammo. With hundreds of posts from people talking about how much they got, for how much, from whom, from where, what kind, what color, what brand, what channel, (internet, retail, private) , etc. etc.........and you are losing sleep over pictures? It's amusing to me.

That's a pretty massive stash. Makes my measly 1600 rounds look sad. I say a little of both, hoarding and preparation. I plan on shooting more at the range and outdoors....it's fun! And of course......preparation too. Thanks! And Semper Fi!

Picked up my first batch of CCI 22 mini mags today thanks to hot tip from another thread here. Anxious to try CCI. Picked up 300 rounds for about $20 from Natchez.

Pictures of my stash to follow when the latest shipments arrive. Cabela's coming tomorrow, Natchez probably a little over a week. Thanks to the hot leads we get on the other thread here.

Oh, and some of the guys are actually disclosing what they got. In detail too. And I say....."congrats!" One guy posted he was able to pick this up today and I quote:

"1500 CCI stingers at about .095
1000 Aquila 38 gr HP high vel. at .07
500 CCI 36gr HP mini mags at .10"

Congrats to him to him!

Well, you are probably right and I know nothing about reloading. But what I marvel at this pricing differences going on. Literally, for 22lr I see boxes of 50 being sold from one place for the same price or more a box of 300 to 500 go for at another. It's all disjointed. It's all just crazy, the price differences.

I just paid about $20 for 300 rounds of CCI 22lr from Natchez. And I see a box of 50 rounds going for almost $30 from Midway! What is that about? And forget Cheaper than Dirt. Forget them forever..........
