Several years ago I strayed down the 'precision rifle' path, and it can be an expensive path indeed. This is my latest and favorite build. It was built by Scout Supply Company using a new Remington 700 action in .223 Remington. Broughton 1-8" twist barrel cut and threaded at 16.5". Manners T5A stock, Timney straight trigger, Vortex scope and rings. It loves 80gr Sierra Match Kings and Varget.

This is my first build. Remington 700 in .308 Win, action trued, barrel was set back and rechambered, then cut and threaded at 18". McRees Precision folding chassis, Timney straight trigger, Vortex scope and rings.

Not really long range and not really precision, but at 200 yards shoots sub-MOA. Lots of fuzzy critters learned not to like it much.

My .45-70 Shilohs, which are a great copy of the old reliable early long range rifles.

With 65 grains of blackpowder pushing a 510 grain slug they shoot way better than I can complete take advantage of properly.

I waited five years and one week for the rifle on the bottom.

The project one :

I had a bit of birthday cash one year and not being much of an AR guy
I picked up a stripped lower and didn't really know just what to do with it.
Then I decided may as well have my son build his own first rifle.
Didn't have any cash so I sold an old sled/snowmobile and a k 22 to raise the money for the job. I Picked up a Rock River LPK with the 2 stage NM trigger cheap off gun broker. Next I wanted to do it in 204 Ruger as I already shoot and load for that cartridge. I didn't realize how expensive those uppers would be. Thankfully I lucked into a DPMS upper on guns America and voila we had the makings of his gun.

He is a bit of a ham at times

Now the precision part that I wasn't really expecting.
4 shots Only 50 yards but it was it's first ever group on paper.

Sporticus; Is your 1895 in 8 x50 Austrian, 8x56 Hungarian or on that was converted to 8x57 Mauser. The first 2 require an "End Block" stripper clip that holds the 5 rounds in the magazine. The 8x50 and 8x57 use .323 diameter projectiles. the 8x56 uses .330-.332 diameter.

Not quite sure what you mean by "Long Distance", my best friend use to play with 105 mm howitzers, they are good to go for about 15 miles. On the other end Police snipers, the FBI say the typical/average shot is 75 yards. I use to have a early Remington PPS in 308 and my #1 son still has one that is newer (It was an Ohio Highway Patrol, Rapid Response Team Rifle) The 3.5x10 power scopes That come on them have a 600 yard paralax. I replaced mine with a 4.5 x20 VX-III and would shoot it at 800 on Dad's farm. I got rid of it when I bought a Savage 10 BAS in 308. At just under 1500 rounds through it is more accurate that either of the 700's. I typically get 4" at 1000 with a Palma load (155 Sierra at 2900 fps). I have a Savage 110 BA in 338 Lapua. I haven't got this mastered yet, I can keep it in 3" at 500 Yards, But is gets away from me beyond 700 yards or so. Could be my ammo, but is more likely me. I have a 6x284 on a 700 action that holds 2" at 500, a 22BR on a 700 Action that holds 2.5 at 500, and a Cooper 21 in 223 that hols 1.5" at 500. At 200 we were shooting used 40S&W projectiles, My spotter could see the lead squirt out the back! But my pride and joy is a Savage 12 Target in 223 that holds 3" at 1035 yards. But the most fun I had with it was shooting M&M's at 200 yards (actually easier to do with a good 22!).

My friends like to "Plink" with 22's at 100 out to 300 yards. A good sporter will shoot 1/2" or better at a 100yards, We will take "Cheese-it" crackers and shoot them at 100, then hunt down the croumbs, first guy with only dust wins. Have fun. Ivan

THAT'S SOME GREAT SHOOTING, IVAN. WERE YOU TRAINED AS A SNIPER IN THE MILITARY OR SELF TAUGHT ? ? ? I HAVE DROOLED OVER THE SAVAGE 110/112 RIFLES FOR YEARS, BUT NEVER BOUGHT ONE. A LONG HUNTING SHOT UP HERE IN NEW ENGLAND'S THICK WOODS IS 100 YARDS. LARGE GAME ANIMALS UP HERE CAN BE TAKEN WITH LEVER GUN CARTRIDGES--30-30, 35 REM, OR 45-70 GOVT. (I OWNED MARLINS IN ALL 3 CALIBERS, ALSO IN .22LR AND .22WRM) THE LONGEST RANGE I HAVE ACCESS TO IS 300 YARDS' AND I ALREADY OWNED A BUSHMASTER VARMINTER IN .223, AND A SPRINGFIELD M1A IN .308 THAT WOULD SHOOT TIGHT GROUPS OUT TO THAT DISTANCE. SO, I JUST COULD NOT JUSTIFY THE SAVAGE…..

WHERE DO YOU SHOOT THAT YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO SHOOT OVER A THOUSAND YARDS ON A RANGE ? ? ? YOU ARE ONE LUCKY GUY. BEST WISHES, AND STAY SAFE…………...

Remington 700 in .308. The receiver is about all that's still Remington. Jewel trigger, Lothar Walther barrel, McMillan stock, HS Precision detachable magazine, Nightforce glass and rail. Getting the belt to feed took some tweaking, but sure makes follow up shots fast. :)

I've taken this one out to 400yds. using 69gn. BTHP's which isn't exactly "long range" but, she'll do.
CZ527 Varmint .223

This one is a blast to shoot -
Savage 10FP .308 w/ Bell & Carlson stock.

ANY CHINOOK DOOR GUNNER IS A BROTHER OF MINE---WELCOME HOME ! ! ! THAT'S A GREAT PAIR OF RIFLES, IN MY FAVORITE BOLT GUN CALIBERS. I NEVER SHOT A CZ, BUT I ONLY HEAR GOOD THINGS ABOUT THEM. I'VE BEEN DROOLING OVER THE SAVAGE 110/112s WITH THE ACCU TRIGGERS FOR YEARS, BUT JUST COULDN'T JUSTIFY ANOTHER RIFLE. I BETCHA THEY ARE BOTH TACK DRIVERS……...

Thank you sir & welcome home yourself.
All my CZ's are great shooters (.22's, .17HMR, & .223). Next one will be the CZ550 Varmint in .22-250.
The Savage has been a good rifle pretty much out of the box except replacing the Tupperware stock with the B&C Varmint, with the aluminum bedding block.

1000 yd precision rifles

Just came in from the range, I shoot rifles weekly with a crew, we shoot everything from 22's to 50 BMG's...today was 50BMG day....range 1000 yds....single digit temps with a 12-15mph 12 o'clock wind....photo's from left to right:
*McMillan Tac-50 broke down in case - this rifle has a 30 MOA base, a Nightforce 8-32X56 scope & Jewell trigger.
* McMillan Tac-50 assembled ( my rifle) I ordered this package specifically for 1000yd plus ranges.
* 308 vs 50 BMG 750 gr Amax comparison
* McMillan 50 ( shooting partner's) conventional stock/Nightforce optics
* Sending a 750 gr Amax downrange
These rifles are sub MOA rifles ( provided we do our part of course) out to & beyond 1000 yds....I have shot mine in excess of 1800 yds.

We can't use rifles where I live for hunting so, other than a bunch of pistol caliber lever actions, I've never had anything other than .22's.

Two years ago, though, I bought a Reminton 700 LTR .308 and equipped it with Badger 20 moa mount, rings and a Bushnell Elite Tactical 3.5-21x50 scope.

All I can say is wow; talk about picking off quarters at 200 yards...
