Here are mine. They run from 1972 to 1982 in manufacture date.

(resizing causes the odd grip appearance)

There was never a 39-1. That particular change was actually listed as the Model 52A (The .38 AMU Pistol), made for the U.S. Army Marksmanship unit.

I did send some pics and some nostalgia to Frank53 since I still cannot figure out how to post pics. If I have to enter a URL to display a pic, my company firewall will not allow them out. I just wanted to copy and paste them or insert like email, but I guess this forum has a different OS.

New member here. Just wanted to contribute. My first try at a picture, Hope this works.

Lynn Baird. He went from Corporal to the Colonel. I forget the year, mid-70s sometime. That's been a while. Since then his son came on and just retired. Time keeps on flying by.
Yours would have been slicked up by the guys who really knew guns and could make them slick as snot on a door knob. They did mine too and mine is not for sale.

ISPCAPT;
What did they replace the 39 with? I guess they also got rid of those flap holsters. St. Louis used them for years. At the armory we used to sew a spring into flap so when you released the flap it stayed up. When I was on the St.L team in 60s I used to make a strong side open top so we could compete in PPC. Putmanville Indiana had a NO cross draw regulation for safety. That used to be one of the big PPC matches in the country... Understandable! I hated those holsters. You are right those guys made what was a horrible double action first shot into butter. After they got done with it it would feed super val, or about anything else you put in it. Lynn and I sat next to each other in school. One day he came in and got his stuff and said "you won't believe this I just promoted all the way" We used to hang out after class at some hotel on the Loop. it was a protection school put on by the State Department and Secrete Service. With a lot of AID recruiters hanging around.

I have a snazzy little 39-2 I would love to share with ya'll. Custom Stainless Steal Frame. COOL and rare.
