I finished my shower project and now I start getting prices on a frameless shower door. So far I have a $1075 price and an $800 price. The opening is 41" wide and standard doors are 72" tall. The door is 26", which is also the standard size. I may be looking at this wrong, but that is about 40 or 50 bucks a square foot...for a shower opening not even 3.5 feet wide. Does this sound right?

When I developed my current medical issue it was recommended that I take out the shower door and replace it with a curtain (which I did). The shower curtains are easier to clean and a lot cheaper.

Glass for shower doors is an special extra heavy glass. A friend of mine does nothing but install custom glass shower doors. Some jobs run in upwards of $10,000.00

The last one I had made about 10 years ago was in that price range
$800 sounds better though

If you stay with glass, be sure it is the best in terms of break resistance, and that if it does break, it goes to pebbles (for lack of a grass industry term) rather than shards.

After seeing the aftermath of two broken doors here in my complex, I had mine taken out and replaced with a rod and curtain. My Onco wanted that as well, because my mobility is limited now, and I fall on occasion.

Shower glass is very expensive for frameless doors because it's a lot thicker. When I built my house our shower is a large walk-in area with no door or curtain just a piece of glass about 6' x 3' to block any spray from getting on the bathroom floor. I got a lot of quotes and the cheapest was about $675.

Before giving into the top price, I would look at fixture salvage places including habitat for humanity stores if you have any nearby. With some luck I have found good home quality fixtures that are no longer made at a fraction of the price of the modern top quality fixtures.

It is a SWMBO sanctioned project. It will be glass.
Then SWMBO can have the "pleasure" of cleaning all the soap scum and water spots off of it. They do not look like the home renovation shows' bright shining examples for very long. Hurts when you bang an elbow on it too.
Don't ask me how I know this.

Built a Caribbean style shower outside-on the side of my house, probably 15 or more years ago-and never looked back. Took the glass doors down and put small tables in the empty shower and tub that were left for "reading materials." About 3 or 4 times a year I poor a half gallon of bleach on the patio paver floor of the outside shower, and that's it. The shower and tub have stayed nice and clean all this time!

Is it a walk in shower? This new house I have now has 2 showers with no shower door. I love it and there is no rush of cold air when you get out.

The shower is only 34x42, it is replacing one of those plastic/fiberglass corner units that started decomposing.
