I was taking some pictures this morning and I thought I would post this 357 from ~1979. Surprisingly the liner in the display box does not have any holes in it and all the usual papers are under the liner. The first picture makes the gun look like it's nickel but as you can see it is definitely blue. Another one that was put away for 45 years. I probably won't shoot it.

A really nice revolver you found. I would love to have one to complement my 28-2. The finish looks pristine. :)

If you have one, you need the other.
W4, how close to mine is yours? Mine letters to Feb 22 of '78, N4479xx. My case insert is a bit worse for wear than yours, I think, it has a small hole where the hammer spur goes but isn't visible with the gun in place. My M28-2 is from 1973-ish.

Mine is a little later, N610719.

Wow, that's what I call a ANIB Model 27-2! Very, very nice! I bought my 6" Model 27-2 (N479553) from a local guy back in 2010 for $600...it's from 1977-78. It was a present from his wife and was brand new when she bought it. As you can tell from the condition of the revolver and presentation case, it was well cared for over the years. It has a couple of scuffs, and was missing the front sight pin when I bought it. S&W sent me a replacement roll pin at N/C, but it's not quite the same as a standard front sight pin. This was the first of a few Model 27s in my modest collection. Enjoy!

Oh how prices have gone up in the last 14 years. I remember those days well. I walked out the door with mine for $1180 a couple weeks ago..

Getting the front sight pin in correctly is a major challenge. My thinking is that if it's not possible to do it 100% as factory, then go with a solid pin that is obviously prouder. Older Smiths had such pins and Colt continues that way. Different yes, but not "kinda close" to correct.

I too have at 27-2, S/N N4479xx with a letter stating a ship date of 2-22-78.
I had a 28-2 that I purchased on 6-2-73 with a S/N N48844.
