Sick and tired of the elitist snobbery

In most enthusiast gatherings there tends to be the elitist factor. When I played in the sports car world it was the tire du jour. If you didn't buy the most expensive and most current tire, you were wasting your money.

Sometimes folks do lose track of the idea that what works for them may not work for you. When I reffed basketball, the popular shoe was Converse. I can't wear Converse as they just don't fit me. More than once I was asked, "What do you mean they don't fit you? They fit me perfectly."

Another thing that many enthusiasts lose sight of is that not all of us have the same resources or are willing to spend those resources on what is the greatest and bestest.

My Norinco 1911A1 (with trigger job by me) shoots as well for me as a $2,000 custom tuned gun. I guess that makes me a cheap gun snob.

This is a man who 'gets it'. Go to a Porsche race meeting, or an IPSC type match and meet the folks who choose to wear what's 'in' rather than what's best for the task. I think this means that Grey, Red and the OP agree that there's a snob factor in choosing gear. In my (considerable) experience with shooters, of course.

I've a saying, that I coined very early in my design and manufacturing career, that "people will buy something that looks good and doesn't work, before they'll buy something that's looks bad but works". No, I wasn't predicting the Glock :-)

Lot FACT being said here! The only thing that could be added is advertising adds a lot of sales often without fact, just perceived ?cool?

Snobs are people who claim credit for everything they come near, if it happens to be popular with those around them. They are dishonest, and patronizing.
Elitists are people who insist they belong to a group who are better than others in all aspects.

Humility is of no use to them, because humility demands self appraisal and contact with reality.

Neither are aware they behave as such, and that's why honest people can't stand them, and avoid contact.

False advertising is just lying for money.

Whiners are people who claim victim status for their own poor decisions, often based on choices made in an attempt to join the elite.

I like  the group that fits in with both of those groupls which jumps on a bandwagon and then, down the road, denies that they ever rode that wagon.

Bell bottoms, white guys with Afros, tie-dyed shirts, disco, the Ford Grenada . . . .

People would be all over it like white on rice at the time and then ten years later can be heard proclaiming "I don't know how people could stand that stuff. . ." until you show them pictures of them wearing bell bottoms and an Afro while leaning on the hood of their new Grenada.

I've invented holsters that haven't even been invented yet.

....and you? You've only rescued people from fires, arrested dangerous wanted criminals and defended innocent children.....

My father invented the question mark????? My mother was a 15 yr old hooker named chloey with webbed feet! That makes me special.....not a snobb...LOL ..."WHO LOVES YA BABY"

"Shoo", I wish just once somebody WOULD call me an elitist OR snob; instead of those awful adjectives they usually weigh me down with.

Claiming yourself to be "slim AND athletic" could be construed as a little "vain" perhaps; or maybe even "snobbish" by some really fat folks.

Without brag, I betcha my box of unused holsters is just as big and full as anybodies, and "worser" still; some are for guns I have never had nor ever expect to; not to mention the three or four I have that are wrong-handed.

What's wrong with bell bottoms and tie dye?

I never cared for tie dyed anything, but in high school, (in the 70's) I wouldn't have been caught dead in straight legged jeans!

I was completely done with bell bottoms, though, upon my discharge from the Navy!

That's the risk of buying leather or grips today, there's just way too many options for anyone to stock in store, so you can't try before you buy. Even if a store were willing, online sellers can undercut them nearly every time.

I agree with the earlier comments, it's not at all elitist to state what works for you. Athletic build is subjective. Even at single-digit body fat, I'm built like a tree stump. I was hoping my son would get my wife's family genes, my 60 yo BIL still wears 30/36 jeans. But that core & upper body strength does come in handy.

WAA, WAAA, WAAAA

All the way back to the trailer park. All of us rich folk nailed it on the first try and only have 1 holster for each gun and are totally happy with it. :D Jimmy did my homework for me and I only got a C, WAAA. I thought I knew how to make friends & influence people. Thanks for making me look good.

I did not know I was so snottish..........

Jest cause I sport a hand-tooled rig, with silversmith'd gold and silver buckles.
Btw, I do have the matching cuff links to boot.

And carry a custom S&W RM....Chambered in the all time great 44 Special.

And all this time, I thought I was jest a hay-seed cowboy. Who Knew? :D

You ain't foolin' nobody with that hayseed act and you know it. We all know you went out and bought that gun and then had that fancy-dancy-drugstore-cowboy-barbecue rig made for it just so you could lord it over all us peons on the forum.

I reckon you even got some hand tooled boots and a shirt or two with them mother of pearl snaps on 'em, too, don't you?

Dang... imagine how po'ed the OP would have been if he had asked "THE" question... boxers of briefs?

This looks like one of those "stir the pot" posts and then sit back and watch the fun ensure.

Time to move on.. and lest I forget the obligatory plausible deniability declaration... IMHO !!

Yeah, looks like you noticed the same thing I did. The OP made a bunch of semi-inflammatory statements then never posted anything in the thread since.

Can you say "drive-by"?

If all ya'll got on my hind-parts like that,(any more than already) I wouldn't be back either !

A bunch of inventive minds; lots of varied experience, a little spare time, and there is no telling what is liable to break loose round here

I can't picture why a proper pancake holster would cause fitment issues regardless of body type. Anyway, how does this make us elitists?

My boots didn't wear all that great til I wore em a few times.

Well, what would YOU expect if you read other people's advice, then started throwing around loaded terms like ELITIST and SNOBBERY and complaining about how their advice didn't translate into the results you wanted. Especially in regards to something as personal and subjective as the BEST holster to purchase?

Personally I can't imagine posting something like that and expecting any other reaction. Can you??
