Hi all, I have a 686-2 that has some marks where the sideplate meets the frame. Is there an easy way to cover this up or repair? Every time I look at the gun that's where my eyes focus. The gun shoots fine and didn't see this when I traded for it. Should I be concerned about what the bubba-smith might have done inside the lockwork? The picture shows it a little but I would like to get this fixed (I am not comfortable pulling the sideplate)

Use a small strip of 600 grit wet-or dry abrasive paper wrapped around a wooden popsicle stick to polish out the burrs. It's stainless, and you can polish to the degree of finish you want without harming it.

That's not from Bubba, that's from the factory . I have several Smiths made in the 80's and 90's that I took out of the box myself that look like that .

+1 on the above repair, and you can use a gray scothbrite pad, to match the factory finish.

Yeah, I've done the 600 wet or dry and the a dremel tool with a buffing tool with jeweler's rouge, then you can take it back to whatever degree of finish you like. I like the satin finish but my 65 was polished pretty well when I got it and I haven't messed with it except for a few small scratches and very small dings.
Peace,
gordon
