I remember going to see In The Heat Of The Night at the Garden Theater in the Willow Glen area of San Jose. There was me, Jim Adkisson, Dave Randall, Steve Rumley, and Mike Layne. There were a lot of Willow Glen kids in the audience. When this scene showed, the theater was filled with a deafening roar of howls and cheers. I will never forget it. The butler, Jester Hairston, said so much with his eyes and a shake of his head. Hairston was an underappreciated and very talented actor, musician, and composer.

I mourn his passing yet but do so with joy in that he had 94 marevelous years where he became such a towering, respected and admired man.

What a gentleman and inspiration... God speed Mr. Poitier.

I enjoyed his work in the movie Sneakers. Good cast esp. with Ackroyd.
