Sidney Poitier has died

[to an inquiring journalist] ''There are many aspects to my personality you can explore constructively... but you sit here and ask me one-dimensional questions... I am artist. Man. American. Contemporary... I am an awful lot of things, so I wish you would PAY ME THE RESPECT DUE.''

~ Sidney Poitier

He was also exceptionally articulate.

I remember going to see In The Heat Of The Night at the Garden Theater in the Willow Glen area of San Jose. There was me, Jim Adkisson, Dave Randall, Steve Rumley, and Mike Layne. There were a lot of Willow Glen kids in the audience. When this scene showed, the theater was filled with a deafening roar of howls and cheers. I will never forget it. The butler, Jester Hairston, said so much with his eyes and a shake of his head. Hairston was an underappreciated and very talented actor, musician, and composer.

Where were you when you saw this?
