Anyone running cast in 10mm ? I have a Sig 220 coming, wondering about diameter and shape. I like Montana bullets, they're not the cheapest but their stuff has worked for me. Should I order .401" ? Looks like they have a couple different ones in 200 gr.

I'm a caretaker at a little 100 acre place where I might run into pigs from time to time, the 10 seemed like a good carry choice. Would AA#5 or 2400 work for starters ?

Thanks.

Some of the local boys shoot 10mm in Glocks with a 180 WFN bullet . Powders used run from VVN-105 , 800X , Blue Dot , 2400 , Longshot , Silhouette , AA #7 & 9 . N-105 is expensive , 800X don't meter worth a damn it's weigh every charge , Blue Dot get squirrely when it's cold outside , 2400 & Silhouette are easy to work with as are the AA powders . Longshot people either love it or hate it . Me I like the VVN-105 , but since you have 2400 give it a try .

For the first 15 or 20 years, I always loaded hard cast lead Truncated Cone projectile in my pistols chambered for the 10MM Auto cartridge

In more recent years, I have switched to jacketed and plated for the cleanliness both down the bore and when I am handloading

I have shot various cast bullets thru a Model 10 Glock, Smith 1006 and a Smith 610. As long as you don't get stupid with them they are OK. If you get stupid they tend to lead. Personally I like Power Pistol but it barks real bad. I have more recently used more and more plated or even jacketed bullets for the 10.

I found that 2400 groups very well in my 10mms with a 165gr JHP, either pistol or revolver. But it's really on the slow side for this size cartridge & you can't get max velocity from it, if that means more.

Never tried AA#5 but it's closer to Power Pistol, which is my favorite in the 10mm Auto.

Zero Bullets makes good jacketed bullets at a reasonable price, & none of the lead bullet issues to hold you back. ;)

Thanks very much. I mentioned those two powders because I have some. I'm in the middle of moving and have kinda lost track of what other powders I have. Kinda lost track of my mind, for that matter, but it's not much to miss.

I run 180 and 200 gr Blue Bullets (40 cal) in mine, incredibly accurate. I use ~7.0 to 7.5 gr HS-6 with those 2 bullets and that is a mid power super accurate load. That stuff meters better than any other.

Hello
Haven't done a whole lot with 200gr cast, but here is what I have;
Shooting a G20-SF with a KKM SS 4.6" barrel.

I found Blue Dot and Unique to be the better powder for the RCBS 200gr bullet. Longshot and 800-X were ok..
Blue Dot is the go-to powder here.

Your gun however may like something completely different so you should by all means experiment a little.

Later I tried some True Blue and it was on par with the others.

For a hard hitting 200gr load you can't go wrong with Blue Dot. It seems to be at least one of the favorites of any 10mm hand loader I've spoken with.

I didn't have much luck with 2400 in 10mm. AA#5, most likely very accurate, won't give you the velocity I believe you are looking for.

Hope this helps a little..

I load 180 grain hardcast with AA#9 for full power loads. Works well in Sprg. XDM 10mm handgun.

I shoot mostly coated cast in my various 10mm. Yes you want 0.401" to start. I like coated, just cleaner shooting, plus I make my own.
Neither of those two powders will give you max performamce. AA#5 is fine for midrange stuff but step up tp AA#7 or better still #9 with 200gr. An honest 1200fps is doable without bendng anything & accuracy is stellar. Bluedot is also very good, just huge blast & fash.
