Sig is now the big dog for the military.

I hated the SIG 229 as my Military service weapon...that hunk of junk has a horribly long trigger pull.

The Sig 320 is a interesting concept in a striker fire pistol .. you can take its fire control group which has the serial number with it and change it into one of the following sized pistols Full-Size, Carry, Compact, and Sub-Compact, by changing the frame and slide size ..

You would have to look on Sig-Talk to see what problems people have had with them if any ..

IMHO the Sig 320 is a dangerous choice

Why would the military want a handgun that can be swapped for multiple calibers and sizes.

Parts from one will not fit all others.

One of the virtues of the M1911 was that any part from any M1911 from any manufacturer would be compatible with every M1911.

Meet the P320 | Sig Sauer

Public Service Announcement :)

There is a slightly older and slightly longer thread about this going in the "Firearms and Knives - Other Brands" section.

Because the guns are used for different missions. CID agents undercover, pilots, grunts, female troopers with tiny hands...

Parts from one will not fit all others.

They will. SIG has this down cold.

Huh? 1911 is the one platform where there are few true "drop in" parts. Not talking about 60 Y/O worn out A1s here.

I've had zero problems with my P320 9mm-to-.357 SIG conversion. Here is my post on this from the thread in the "Other Brands" section:

A lot of the USPA/IPSC and IDPA shooters have good things to say about the Sig 320. I hear it's greatest claim to fame is that it has a great trigger straight out of the box. It is inexpensive and reliable. A much better choice than that awful M9. I hated that pistol.

I thought I read recently the nod was to the Glock 19, or was it just Special Ops going from 45 to Glock 19?

I thought it was the Army new pistol, not all branches of the Military.Didn't the Marine Corps,go with Glock?

I believe that the contract is with the Army but $580 million for 500,000 320s seems steep to me.

Initial media info may well be sketchy, misleading, or totally wrong (where have we seen that before), but commonly military contracts will include not only x units of equipment, but also a slew of replacement parts--which usually seems to be neglected in media reporting. For example, one Hummer might also 'come with' one or more spare engines, transmissions, alternators, etc etc.

That said, $1,160 would seem pricey for one pistol.

Here's a bit more info on the "$580 million" figure.

If that's the price per pistol it does seem high for a pistol that is selling for between 500 and 600 dollars on the street .. that's a lot of spare parts per pistol ..

Yes, and some articles suggested the $580M was for a twenty year contract, IIRC...with the initial purchase being a lot lower (around $100M*, maybe?--was quick scanning, late at nite). They are getting a bunch of the grip adapters, suppressors, etc in the deal, too.

*which would put pricing around $200 per 'package'...but definitely do not quote me on that!

I thought I felt a great disturbance in the Force the other day. Guess the adoption of the SIG 320 was it.
