Hey guys!
Here is my SIG P220R .45 ACP pistol with tactical defense rig. I utilize this rig for extra-domestic higher risk threat assessment applications such as camping and traveling in the desert wastelands outside the city. It also serves as a possible home defense system if there is enough time to put it on (probably unlikely) but the P220 is always on the nightstand ready with some spare mags on hand. Here's the rig guys:
It consists of the P220, enhanced web belt, Safariland Lvl-III holster, Surefire G2X Tactical light, CAT tourniquet in an Eleven 10 TQ pouch, Safariland triple open top mag pouch, and some belt keepers that are optional but helpful for wearing for extended periods to make sure the rig doesn't shift up and down on the waist. A two-round Safariland shotshell holder rounds out the rig and provides an extra couple of shots for my primary defensive long gun, a Remington 870 Police.
This is very comfortable and relatively lightweight. I've worn it for hours out in the desert and have shifted things around to make sure everything is comfy and balanced. The buckle design on the Blackhawk enhanced web belt is very good, much like the old pistol belts I was issued in basic training, but with a center third button for improved security. I always learned to have a tourniquet nearby after being issued them in Afghanistan. It's never a bad thing to have.
I am currently running 7-round Mec-Gar made mags. Some would argue they are the most reliable mags for the .45 ACP P220 ever made. I also have a number of 8 round and 10 round mags, but am comfortable with the sheer proven track record of these last-generation 7-rounders. As you can see, they have the retention dimples near the feed lips and are just great mags. Adding a Surefire X300U weapons light is the only modification I've made to the pistol. This gun has digested hundreds of Federal HST 230 grain duty loads and countless ball rounds and I trust it with my life. No improvements necessary.
Some of you guys out there might think this is overkill. All I have to say to you is hope you are never the victim of crime, as I have been in the past. This is just to get those brain juices going, guys. Hopefully it gives some of you guys ideas if you want to make your own defensive belt. In no way shape or form do I claim this is the best way, but it's just what I've come up. Thanks all and keep your head on a swivel. Evil never sleeps.
