I traded with a co-worker today and got a P250 9mm. He told me it is the compact version. It comes with a 15rd mag but the slide is marked P250, not 250c. I've read there are different generations of these and the first gen had some problems. Can you tell by the serial number? mine is: EAK1888xx.
I haven't owned too many Sigs over the years, a P230 and a 2022, both over 10 years ago. So I'm not real familiar with their models.
Can I use other mags, like the 17 or the extended mags?
I'm looking forward to get out with it and try it out. I think the trigger will be easy to get used to. It feels good in my hands.
Thanks for any info.

My guess is that the reason it doesn't say P250c on the slide is because it's a modular gun, meaning that if you want you can buy different slide/barrel groups and grip frames to get different sizes and configurations. The "gun" is the chassis with the serial number. So with one "gun" you can have a full-size, compact, subcompact, or just about any combination.

Here's a picture showing the differences between generations:

FYI, I don't have a P250, but I did research them pretty heavily as I like DAO guns and had considered getting one.

My p250 initially had some problems, but is now a nice little piece. Beware that there are technically three different versions of frames. The difference between the 2nd and 3rd is the slide stop and release but a dremel can fix it.

I have a new version – as shown above - subcompact in 9mm. Very reliable pistol and fairly compact for a 12-rd magazine. Uses the same grip frames and magazines as SIG P320's as I'm sure most know. I've got $250 into mine with three magazines and think that was a pretty good deal. Much better than a High Point – but at a High Point price! :)

Be careful cutting/filing/sawing on those grip modules; get them too hot and the polymer will melt.
Heads up, look at the comparison photo above and note the changes to the magazine bases. There is a third type now too.
I have owned five P250's, I still have a compact 9mm and subcompacts in 9mm and .40 S&W. They are extremely underrated and practically impossible to sell or trade here. The SP2009/2022/2340 series also gets no love here. I like those too.

The rear sight is a proprietary item, not like other Sigs use.

You should be able to purchase the 17 and even 21 round mags with the sleeves to fit into your gun. The 21 round mags are made for the P320 TacOps model.

Good info here guys. I always am impressed with the knowledge and helpfulness in this group.
I found a place that listed some serial numbers, it appears mine was made in 2013.

Careful when looking for grip modules. The very latest ones probably won't work with your fire control unit (the serial numbered innards) unless it has the latest slide catch lever. Fortunately, those are inexpensive and easily installed.
Good shootin',
Doug

Edit: Some newer grip modules were actually shipping with the new lever at one point. Not sure about now.

I refer to mine as my square revolver... long trigger pull... but super smooth and easy to get used to... stage & crisp break. I have managed to assemble a multisize collection... and if you want, the X-five series grips do work if you update the slide catch lever... about 10 bucks...

Good summary of the type. My wife has a C and an SC in 380. Easy to rack, minimal recoil with locked breech operation. Highly underrated pistols.

I know nothing regarding SIG serial numbers and when manufactured. I bought my 9mm P250c (1st version) in December 2008, serial number EAU015xxx. Later bought a sub-compact XChange kit for it. They were still fairly new at that time, but they cost a lot more then than they do now. I have never had one single failure with it, of any kind. One of the features that I liked at that time (and still do) is the fact that IF you have a FTFire, just pull the trigger again. No need to rack the slide to eject and chamber a new round. Now, in reality, if there ever is a FTF on a 9mm cartridge, most likely it will not fire on the second strike and you will have to rack it anyway. But I still like the feature.
