I find the white outline rear sights distracting.
Sight Black spray and carbide lamps are temporary.
Is there a good way to get rid of the white outline without affecting the sight picture?

Birchwood Casey makes touch-up paint pens for guns called Super Black that will work. You can get them in gloss, semi-gloss and flat black to match whatever you're doing. Flat black would be what you want on a sight blade. I've used these to darken stainless sights on a few guns and they work well. You should be able to find the paint pens at Midway, Brownell's, etc.

The white outlines are nothing more then white paint.

You can paint over the white with some flat black paint, or use Lacquer thinner or Acetone and a solvent proof toothbrush to dissolve and flush off the white paint.

For that matter you could just use a black magic marker. If you ever want to put the gun back to original, the marker can be removed with a mild solvent without removing the paint if you're careful.

Carbide lamps??? I thought I was the only one old enough to remember carbide lamps!!! Do they still make them?? We used them when I was a kid in the 60s for night fishing, camping, and you said it, sight blackening. I had forgotten all about them. Wish I had held onto mine. I'll look on eBay, bet someone is selling them.

Spend $10 bucks for a new Black Rear Sight Blade and a screw and nut to replace the W/O one. You can get them from either Brownell's or Midway USA. Just make sure you order the correct height. There is a rear blade size chart floating around here on this Forum if you do a search. Takes only a few minutes and you will not be bothered by the W/O anymore - problem solved!

They still sell small carbide "lighters" that Target shooters use to blacken sights.
These are similar to a large cigarette lighter and have a flint and striker on top.
You fill the container with carbide, put in a few drops of water, screw on the top and roll the striker to ignite it.
