Are the sight cuts on the M&P the same as the 3rd gen guns? I'm hoping the interest in the M&P will benefit my effort for some fiber optic sights for my 5906DPA.

I found the front sight cut to be the same on my 4586 and my M&P9 - the front sight height is the same as well. It was a cheap and effective FO front sight option for my 4586.

We've had a fiber optic front sight available for the 5906/4006 for some time now.
