For any who might be interested in approved rear sight options the sight that I manufacture, Sight Mount Gunsights has been approved by the IDPA and judged conventional. Here it is on my M&P. I have the letter if needed. Take a look Sight Mount Home

IDPA approves a red dot as a "conventional" sight? That seems like tortured logic.

Ah! That makes more sense. I see now that the intent is for the base to be a rear notch while allowing the user to swap a red dot or other accessory on and off for whatever reason. Not a huge market I would suppose, but a market none the less.

Sorry I wasn't more clear on that. Yes they approved Sight Mount as a conventional rear sight replacement. IDPA use is not the primary intent, the primary intent is to have a conventional rear sight that if desired can have an optic attached and detached in seconds. Bigger market hopefully :) .

Yes but also no. It's primary function is as a replacement rear sight but if you want to use an optic you can. For example here is the sight picture on my Beretta all the time, but if I would choose, I could add an optic....

Anyone shooting IDPA considering a new rear sight? Here's an option that adds versatility to your handgun.

Nobody just shooting IDPA would want a scope mount for IDPA, but I can see the possibilities of putting on a scope for other purposes (steel) and using just the mount for IDPA or USPSA/Limited.

The base alone certainly meets the "post and notch" requirement for USPSA and IDPA, in my view.

First thing I would want is to get rid of those white dots on the rear.

That's the idea, a single gun that can do double duty and offer options to the shooter.
