Sight Problem

I had cataract surgery a while back and as result, I have great distance vision and not so great near vision. Therefore, I'm having trouble seeing a good site picture with my SD40VE stock sights. I can see well with reading glasses, but I don't want to waste time putting on glasses in the middle of the night with an intruder needing to be dealt with. Have any of you had a problem seeing your sights? And how did you deal with it? So far, my thoughts are to learn to point-shoot, and maybe install bigger sights. I'm open to suggestions.

I painted my SW40ve sights with Glow V 10. A water based glow in the dark paint. I leave it out in the light during the day and get cheap night sights. The paint is a light yellow that is easier to see for me in the daytime. It takes a lot of coats to get a good bright finish. I got it from Amazon. I too have had catarac surgery, same situation. I can see fine beyond the pistol just not able to focus at arms length. I put Truglo TFO's on my Shield for carry.

The SDVE pistols are so perfect in the hand that most of the time when I am at the range I usually don't even use the sights. It just naturally points where I want it to shoot. You know the old "if you can point your finger you can point the gun" well it is absolutely true with these great guns.

I am far sighted as well. At the range, I use my no-line bifocals. I carry a gun with night sights and a laser sight. Between the two of them, hopefully I will be OK. I don't sleep with my glassed on either.

A laser sight is also an alternative.

Agreed. I also have the Crimson Trace Rail Master on my SD9VE and it is well worth the money. I will sometimes put it on my SD40VE but typically leave it on my 9 since my 40 stays in my Jeep in a mounted holster.

Thanks Bill, your reply makes me want to go the point-shoot route before changing sights. I agree...great gun.

The Big Dot looks pretty good for a self-defense pistol. Also seems like it would be well-matched to the SD.

Some great suggestions here Paul, I'm going to try the paint my self. Also I remember seeing some stick on dots that may be the way to go, for me not sure if I could see to paint a dot on.
I have also thought about using a ghost ring sight on the rear.
