Sight Screws

Just curious. When did the factory transition from flat top to domed screws for elevation and windage on the micrometer click sights.

It was mid 1950’s. It was the same time they made the thread change for finer sight adjustments.

According to Mr. Bill Cross' book THE SMITH & WESSON 44 MAGNUM REVOLVER, Directive #566 was issued on May 28, 1958 and implemented by early 1959 to change to a crowned windage adjustment screw and the crowned elevation nut occurred later in the year.

In the same period was the screw thread change from 6 to 12 clicks for one complete revolution. Reason: finer adjustment.

Has anyone altered/machined a crowned windage screw head flat to replicate the mentioned flat head screw??? I suppose one would then need to re-cut the screwdriver slot deeper.
