Sigma 15 Round SW40F Mag in SW40VE

I'm looking to get another magazine for my SW40VE and note on the Midway USA web site that at least one person is using the 15 round SW40F magazine in his 40VE with no problems. Someone else said he had to do some work on the 40F mag to make it work in his 40VE. So is anyone here using the 15 round 40F mag in their 40VE? One more round is a good thing and the magazines cost is the same as the 14 round 40VE magazine.

I use 9F mags in my 9VE all the time. The magazine body is a bit longer to accomodate the extra round so it will stick out of the mag well a bit more than a regular VE mag.

You might have to sand down the top of the baseplate to make the magazine to seat without giving it a good hard slap, this seems to be common with F mags and i had to do it to all of mine.

Yes the 40F mag can work in a SW40VE.
You just need to remove your 40F mag baseplate and trim/sand aprox.
1/8" off the sides of the baseplate. It will then fit like a glove, but extend 1/4" down past the grip base. Five minutes work = 15+1 rds. in your .40cal!
In the pic. of the mag you can see the faint mark of the original taller baseplate. Got my 40F mag from midwayusa, great deal for factory originals.

Indeed, I was able to shave approximately 1mm off the top of my floorplates and they work just fine now Mine just hold 14 rounds though, they aren't 15 round mags.

What am I missing here?
If it will "extend 1/4" past the grip base" why do you have to trim anything off the baseplate of the mag? Isn't it already below the grip base?

While the magazine body is larger to allow for the extra round, the baseplate is larger as well to cover up the extra magazine sticking out...

Reading this post helped me make the choice to buy some 40f mags for my 40ve, so I just wanted to add to this post in the event I can help someone doing a search.
the 40F mags I purchased fit perfectly in my 40ve without any modifications at all. If anyone is interested I will add a pic.

Unless I was attacked by a zombie, fourteen rounds should be more than enough.
Sigma mags are dirt cheap at gun shows. Unless I lucked out. A guy was asking $25, I offered $15 and he took it. Now I keep two mags in my range bag and one in gun. The one in gun has defence ammo in it.

I scoured the area and the online shops for deals on 40F and 9F magazines some time ago.

As as rule, magazines made for the F's -- these days -- are sold for less than the magazines for the VE's. I bought several for about $20.00 each about a year ago, and to this day see them advertised quite a bit less than those for the VE's -- and they are still S & W magazines.

Fact is --- they work like a champ in VE series Sigmas, and the bonus is -- the 9mm will carry a total of seventeen (17) in the magazine well, and the .40 caliber will carry a total of fifteen (15).

I find they slide and lock right into the grip of the VE without having to modify, sand, trim or whatever -- the baseplate as described by some other posters in this forum.

Just give it a firm shove, and it sets and locks in place -- ready to fire. Plus -- I have not had issues of FTF, stovepipe, or fail to eject with those magazines in the VE's either.

As far as I am concerned -- more capacity for less money.

One thing to be aware of, however, is that the MAGAZINE LENGTH is longer, so it does, indeed, have a different look to it, and the baseplate sticks out from the bottom of the grip a bit. This never has bothered me, as the extra space just feels better in my hand, but it could (admittedly) aesthetically bother some people.

I would like a bit of clarification on this issue. If I buy the SW40F mags can I just swap out the base plates from my SW40VE mags? I don’t care a bit about the gap. It would just be nice to have two fifteen count mags ready on tap and not have to alter material. I’m betting I can find replacement base plates for the two VE mags at some point.

Yes you can swap the baseplates.

However, the "modification" needed is dirt simple.
1. Take the baseplate off the SW40F magazine.
2. Find the top surface of the baseplate that touches the grip when inserted.
3. Sand off about 1/16".
4. Put the baseplate back on the mag and check it in the gun. You need only a slight clearance between the baseplate and the grip of the gun.

The problem with the advice about "just push it in really hard" is that the magazine catch is only party engaged, and can drop the mag at an inopportune time. You want just enough clearance between the baseplate and the gun grip for a slight wiggle, to insure the magazine catch is fully engaged.

You could have done one in the time it took to read this.

40F mags work in my SW40VE with NO modifications needed at all. Yes, the baseplates are thicker, but no big deal.

in search of an aftermarket mag to use in my sw40ve

I am permanently paralyzed and in search of an aftermarket company that produces or can custom make a 15 round magazine to use in my Sigma 40 sw40ve. Do you or anyone else have any possible companies I can look into to order these mags. I came across one once but to this day cannot find one. Being in my current position confined to wheelchair a 15 rd clip (plus one in the pipe ) would make me feel a more secure incase i have to use it other than range use, which would be easier for me to not have load quite as often? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Other wise I love my 40, and if I can find someone to help me stabilize the barrel to have less side to side play to increase constant accuracy would be even better. But the area I live in does not have too many qualified gunsmiths to help me with this situation. If anyone can steer me in the right direction I would be very greatful.
