I once owned a Sigma in 40 S&W....over a 4 year period ,I put around 4k through it during that time..,other than a couple stove pipes out of the first box of ammo..it ran flawlessly...135gr. through 180 gr...even some 200gr lead TC handloads ...

I'm looking to replace my Sig Pro (never could warm up to that gun)

My gosh it seems like I'm hearing so much bad press about the gun here lately ..

What do you guys think about the Sigma 40 S&W..???

not that I have all that much experiance with differnt guns, But I love my .40 sigma. I even can carry it concealed, thanks mostly to being fat enough to hide it on my side.

MY experience is about the same as yours.

I loaned my well-used .40 Sigma to a fellow at an IDPA match whose own gun had just lost a major chunk out of the slide. After the match, he insisted on buying the Sigma, holster, extra mags, and magholder on the spot.

While I don't personally care for the .40s&w round, the SW40VE has a very good reputation. Equal to that of the 9mm SW9VE and other comparable Sigma models. And that is something that several other poly framed gun makers cannot claim. Then again I guess it only makes sense since it is the 40 SMITH & WESSON. :)

well...

I've owned a Sigma 40 for at least 8 years. I have never had any failure at all.

Mine was one of the early VE's to come out. It eats everything I gave it. Once you get used to the trigger pull vs. point of aim....you got a good side arm for life.

This gun was a purchase I made for a fishing trip to Alaska.
It got dumped over board at least twice, with one of those times it being stepped on by a searcher and ground into the river bottom.

Found it, dried it and mag separately, bang, bang bang just as it should.

The 40ve is a great pistol, easy to clean, modify, shoot etc. I have tried everything to get it to malfuction.20K+ rounds and not one time has it FTF or FTE. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive, reliable gun.

I have only had 2 fail to feeds not a big problem to me. I love my 40ve

I've had one since 2007. I still have it, which I suppose says something, since I traded the Glocks I've had over the past five years. Whether it says that the thing is quite useful or whether it just shows that there is little resale/trade value to one... Well maybe a bit of both.

I don't have one of the 9mm versions, so I can't compare it to that. Fits the hand better than I remember my old pre finger groove Glock 23 doing and points better. But it was a cheaper gun and it showed. Compared to other polymer makes there were sharp edges - nothing you couldn't take care of, but they were there. (A H&K USP and an FN .40 that I had were notably smoother.) The sealer type finish, of whatever sort it is, on the stainless slide also wears rather easily. The stainless on the mags meanwhile tarnishes - I have nine mags now, but one still has a stain from a drop of Coke that got in as I unboxed things.

It works, it's expendable. I kept it even after I no longer had the FN .40 that I liked better. I've shot a fair number of revolvers, I still don't like the trigger.

I'm thinking of using an aftermarket spray on finish to darken the slide - no that the two tone look is that bothersome... just that I'd rather test things out on the Sigma before moving on to something that I'd care more about.

In a grim sort of way, perhaps I do have affection of a sort for it. It's like a faithful screwdriver or hammer - it has a tool like utility to it. Can't say that I love it though, or even am truly fond of it.

I was in LE back in the day (late 60's to late 1980) in NW Indiana. I Owned and carried quite a few S&W revolvers and semi auto pistols. Owned a fair number of Colts as well. The one that sticks in my mind to this day is the Smith model 57, .41 Mag. It was a heavy hitter for its day but was very accurate for a large frame revolver. My new Sigma .40VE reminds me of that old hog leg. Same heavy trigger (that I spent countless hours polishing), but equally controllable and accurate. I've put only 200 rounds through it, but I know I'm gonna love it.
