Had basically talked myself into getting a Sigma 9mm - Bud's $299 free ship + $50 rebate, can't lose.

So I rented one at the range. Had 8 light strikes in 3 10 rd mags. Was really dissapointed. I realize it was probably a filthy range rental, but the trigger was so strong, it's hard to believe I got any light strikes at all. Of course I mentioned it to the range guy, but he didn't give a crap. Then he went on about how lousy the Sigmas are. Whatever, man.

So tell me this was just a super filthy gun. I read extensively through a number of forums about the model and the trigger is always the big issue. I liked the feel and the accuracy was fantastic.... when it decided to fire.

My 40VE always fires, probably have 800+ thru it but i clean it too, i like the sigma's and the trigger dosen't bother me.

I would take a sigma over the mp.i have a sig9-40 with no mf or ftf. With about 15000 rds.

my sw40ve has almost 1000rds. throught it without ONE SINGLE problem. Range rentals are almost always dirty and not well taken care of.

I've read through the trigger fix posts and decided I would remove the pigtail spring (great video on YouTube with a guy doing it in less than 10 min), buff out the trigger/hammer parts and leave the other springs alone. Some guys are swearing the only reason the pigtail spring was put in was to help side-step the Glock lawsuit.

I've got a Kel-Tec P11 and thought that trigger was a bear, but the Sigma makes it feel like a Barbie pull.

My Sigma 9mm. has not had a light primer strike, yet. It is about 4 years old, and has a couple of thousand rounds through it. Most of what I've shot, is FMJ practice rounds and several hundred hollow point defensive rounds. It functions flawlessly, but I keep it clean.

If you don't mind the heavy trigger pull, the non-standard rail, the stick on front sight, the lack of accessories, then buy it and enjoy. I owned one for 3 years, shot countless rounds through it without one failure of any kind, and used it as my carry gun. When the M&P came out I traded my Sigma for a 9 Compact. My M&P has had the same reliability as my Sigma, but I have added the CT Grips as well as a flashlight of my choice.

The Sigma is a good gun inspite of it's Internet reputation and if I did not own a M&P I would own another Sigma.

i have about 300 rounds through my sw9ve, 150 of which with the lightened (youtube) trigger mod. very accurate and very reliable gun. i have never had a jam, misfire, anything other than a true fire.

only thing i regret, i wish I would've gotten the allied one

Likely reasons for light strikes in a Sigma:
1. Oil in the striker has collected dirt and gummed up. (should be clean and DRY)
2. The pistol has been "improved" with a reduced power striker spring.
3. The gun is terminally dirty and not fully going into battery each time. The chamber should also be clean and dry.

5 drops of oil (4 frame points and sear contact) are all the lube a CLEAN Sigma should have. Mags should be disassembled, sprayed with silicone, wiped dry, and reassembled.

Thanks. I'm sure it had stock springs because it was a lot heavier than my 10# P11 trigger,

The stock boy or janitor probably has to clean these range rentals. And when you rent a range gun, they make you buy a box of their ammo - so the cheapest, dirtiest stuff they got is what goes through these things.

i like my sigma. i have the 40 and i haven't had one problem. like others i keep it clean, and i took out the pigtail spring. i really like it a lot. very reliable so far after about 350 rounds.
