Finially got a chance to see how my new Sigma 40ca performed, it functioned flawlessly no issues whats so ever. However, shooter was low with the the first 10 rounds missing everything at 20'. I thought I used the sights correctly but no dice. I moved the target to about 15' and focused on the front sight only and did much better. What's my problem? The back sights are there for a reason, please advise.

Just line up the "tops" of the front and rear sites, so it looks like a solid line.
Example: --- and aim it on the target..

How much experience do you have with handguns? If you missed "everything" then you probably anticipated the recoil and flinched a little. Maybe you are not accustomed to the trigger. The Sigma has a heavier trigger and if you don't have experience with revolvers you may need some practice. Make sure the gun is unloaded and then do some dry fire practice. Make sure when the striker is released that the sights are not moving.

Where you doing rapid fire or slow fire? If it was rapid might take some time to get use to the pistol. Good advice from Mick, you have to line up ---. I like the three dot sights better so it would be ... all the same at 20' and missed everything I expect your sights are off or you need spend more time to set on the target before you the pull. Might be as simple as more time with the pistol

The only bullet that should leave a firarm is one that you know where it will end up. Not where you want it to go but where you know it will be.

There are 3 planes: (1) front sight, (2) rear sight and (3) target. They are different distances from your eye, so you cannot focus on all three at once.

Focus on the front sight. Center the front in the notch of the rear so there is equal light on both sides and so you can draw an imaginary straight line across the top of the front and rear sights.

Now put the front sight on target, remembering to focus on the front sight (the target will blur a little, but that is what is supposed to happen).

Carefully pull the trigger back slowly until the shot breaks - it should surprise you - and remember to keep your sights lined up and follow through - that means continuing to look at the sights even when the round goes off and after.

It takes tremendous concentration to do it right and do not go fast. Speed will come with consistency, but there is no secret to speed shooting other than thousands of rounds fired slowly and with concentration.

You will NOT learn to speed shoot in a couple of boxes of shells in one afternoon, even at 5 or 7 yards.

Hey, thanks for the info, I guess I wanted good results right away. Sight shooting is harder than I thought. The recoil and adjusting back to the target takes some practice that I know need.

Don't sweat it, I've been doing it for years and what I've learned is only a small fraction of what's out there to be learned!

Trigger control was my problem. With the heavy trigger I tended to pull down a little on the trigger thus dipped the the gun at the point of firing. Dry fire and make sure that the sights stay where they are supposed to. It took me a while esp. at the 20 -25 yd line to stay on target. Lots of good ideas here

I think you (sheriff51) hit it right on, I was diffinitly pulling down at the point of the trigger pull. Have to learn not to do that, it all makes sence that a low shot would be the result of that motion. I'll adjust and go at it again. Thanks.

I'm gonna guess you are anticipating the recoil and pushing the barrel down before firing. The Sigma has a heavy trigger and takes quite abit of practice to get used to. Take your time and slow steady pressure on the trigger until it goes bang. Do your best to concentrate on NOT anticipating the recoil. And mostly practice, practice and more practice. You will be shooting bullseyes in no time. The Sigma is a more than accurate enough for most needs.
