Hey guys, sadly my FFL STILL didn't have the gun in as of yesterday. Looks like it'll be this week. I saw some decent deals on ammo at Wal-Mart and Dick's Sporting Goods. (This is for the Sigma .40) $34.97/100 Remington UMC JHP can't remember grain. Would these be adequate for target shooting/breaking the gun in or should I use FMJ for this? Dick's had Winchester Personal Defense black box 180 JHP that I'd like for carry/home, but I had read somewhere that the lighter 130-150 grain JHP's are better for carry than the larger 180 grains. Can someone shed some light on either of these and how your Sigma handled them?

I carry with Gold Dots, serious practice with Speer Lawman and have shot WWB, and UMC , have only had one FTF (bad primer in UMC it was 1 out of 250 UMC rounds fired) and 1 FTE with WWB (1 out of 300 rounds) pretty much shoots whatever you feed it

You shoulnt have any problem with any ammo but you should run at least 100+ rounds though the gun with the ammo you are going to carry with and have zero FTF.

I have shot 15 different brands/weights of ammo and the sigma took them all and was still barking for more.

I recently ran 200 rds of Remington UMC 180 gr. MC (flathead) from Walmart and had 3 FTFeed, round did not chamber all the way.. Also ran 150 rds of Remington UMC 180 gr JHP from Walmart also without a single problem.

sweet! sounds good. i'll pick those up for the range and the Winchester Personal Protection's for carry/home. I can only find those in 180 jhp without having to order them online

any good hollow points that work? I keep hearing stories of them jamming and I don't want to waste money on ammo that doesn't work!

I have fired 180 grainers exclusively from mine. I once tried to fire some 155 grain hp's (I think these were federal Classic) and they jammed on feed each attempt from one box.
Been lucky with Rem green box 180 gr hp's that come 100 rounds to a box @ Walmart. Have also had good luck with Winchester Ranger 180 gr hp's and many 180 gr fmj from a few makers. Probably a little over 1000 rounds fired thru my gun so far. I just haven't tried any other bullet weights and am happy with the heavy 180 @ about 900-1000 fps.

The only ammo I have had problems with (9mm version), is PMC Bronze. FTF's all day long in my Sigma - seems to have a hard primer. Switched to UMC JHP, Fiocchi FMJ, WWB and Win Silvertip and had no issues at all.

Gave the PMC to a friend and it shot fine in his XD9.

SW40E

I have had all kinds of ammo thru my 40 in the last 3 years, from cheap factory remanufactured to my primary carry ammo (Hornady Critical Defense) with no FTF or FTE. :D

I seen some Winchester 165 grain 100 pack for like 28 bucks just worried about it being a problem during break in. I am not trying to thread jack, just trying to see how broad the ammo spectrum is for the 40ve.

Yep, the white box is fine to shoot. It will prolly shoot a little low. The gun is designed for 180grain. I like the federal champion 180gn fmj fn at wally world for less than $15 per 50.

I just took my gun calss to get a permit, and our nra insructor read a notice that was being taken out of the gun boxes by most stores about how winchester white box ammo from wal mart should not be used in the gun. We were shown pictures of them blowing up in the guns. i was wondering if anyone else has heard about this? i work for wal mart and i know how cheap the company is. its being said they are the low end of the production lines, and wal mart is buying them up.

Well, for what it's worth, the Federal Premium ammo at Wally's is cheaper than the WWB, I've shot 'em both, no problems with either. Have NOT heard anything about WWB ammo 'blowing up'.

Huh. I've used this ammo many times and not had a problem. To this point, I haven't heard or read anything negative.

Any ejection issues of already spent rounds with the Sigma 40. Never had a problem till recently. I have had at least a thousand rounds through it with little to no problem until now.

My Sigma 40ve has more than 3000 rounds through it with no ejection problems at all. Be sure your gun is clean especially around the ejector.

On another note, I have been running Winchester White Box ammo through my Sigma and have never had any problems with them. I did have a Rem UMC dud round that had a primer detonate but no powder burn. I had to stop and clear the barrel so as not to blow the gun up. This just happened yesterday after I posted that I had no problems with UMC. Great timing.
