I found this pair of made in Italy Sile combat grips for J-frames in my discarded forgotten grip bag. Bought off Ebay a few year ago for a M60 but the fit was poor (unacceptable gap in front and back) and I didn't used them. Thought I would give them a try on my new 640. Had to ream the pin locating holes deeper and scrape off some rubber flashing from the solid grip panels on the inside. Once I did that, they fit much better. I really like the feel of the rubber and the finger grips fit my hand perfectly. Smaller than Pachmayr Compacs, thinner than Uncle Mikes but more hand-filling than the stock S&W banana combat grips.

Will take them to the range this week and see how I shoot with them. We'll see. Some time grips feel great in hand but shoot like ****. Anyone else using these grips?

Hi Scruffy! These grips were the cat's pajamas even before there were cats.:D Lighter in weight by almost half, they have a fiberglass insert (proper term?) as opposed to the metal in the excellent Pach Compacs. Also, there is less chance of rust forming underneath them: the Compacs can cause frame rust to develop. Thinner, as well. Surprised to hear you had slight fitting difficulties, my sets have fit very well. I've had these grips on my 360Sc since I bought the gun in 2001. Not something to sell, these grips are keepers.

The only grips I’ve bought an extra set of, just because I like them so much!

The thinness is just right for me with recoil; also doesn’t hurt for pocket carry like most rubber grips. I really think it’s one of the best J frame grips out there… and certainly one of the cheapest.

Thanks. Here is the area I had to remove the excessive flash from. Had to go deeper on the the bottom frame pin locating hole as well to get the two halves to go together without a gap in the seam. No biggie, but this set fit like this on several of my Js I tried them on so it was the grips and not the gun. I still need to get out and shoot with them.

I had them on my very first Smith revolver, a beautiful little nickle plated M36 Chiefs Special. I remember I was going to buy the blue M36 for $179 and then I saw the nickle gun for about $10 more and HAD to have it. The Sile grips were very inexpensive at the time and pretty much my favorite J-frame grip.

These Sile rubber grips were a revelation, given that their wooden grips of the late 60s, early 70s were poorly shaped and garishly finished. The Sile rubber grips for square butt K frames are even better. IIRC, they were also made for the Ruger -Six revolvers.

I don’t have a pair for the J frame but I do for the K square. I also bought a spare pair used but didn’t like the fit on the second pair. I second other comments above they feel great in the hand.
But ….. let’s keep it to ourselves so we can score some more ! I’d sure like to find a set for J frame.

They're on Ebay.

Based on the reviews here I bought a set off EBay for about $14 shipped NOS. I am anxious to try them out on my M60.
