Silliest reason you've bought a gun? I'll go first.....

I picked up some fired .45ACP brass at a range, so naturally I had to buy a Colt Gold Cup to shoot it in. I also bought a couple of magazines for a Swedish Lahti M40, therefore I had to get the gun.

But I wouldn't say either of those reasons was silly.

After the first box of factory ammo I mostly shot reloads. I still consider the 458 a VERY versatile ctg when reloaded. I essentially used the top end Marlin/Ruger load data for 45-70 and cast bullets to get my 458 "Plinking" loads.

I did the same -- loaded-up 350 gr Hornady SPs. It was actually a very good gun for moose, and a pleasure to shoot. When I took the remote canoe trips through bear country (which was, essentially, everywhere), I loaded-up the factory bazookas. I still have 10 rounds left in the original box.

Silliest reason I have is that I buy one that's LNIB or unfired and I can't bring myself to shoot it. Then I have to find the same model gun in "shooter" condition.

I've done this too many times!

I was going to say that I bought a gun for a set of grips (Goodyears with C*** medallions) that I had, but so many others have done that that I am starting to wonder whether it was silly.

Around 1971 when I was 14 I was watching my nephew and this movie Shane came on. WOW! I've been real fond of long barreled nickle Colt SAA's since. My "Shane" gun is on top here. A 1958 .45 that I always wanted 'cause of that movie. No carved ivories, though.

Because it was being drooled over by someone I didn't particularly like and he had to go home to get the money.

Regards,

Bob

That's cold...and I love it.:D:D:D

The silliest reason I bought a gun was because somebody at the door of the Internet area at work kept on rattling on about...well, who knows, and because of the distraction I ended up bidding on a ratty Arisaka sporter instead of the unusual French rifle I was after.:mad::mad: I thought my FFL was going to bust his ribs laughing when it came into town.

I remember that article. "This is my elephant gun." "What do you shoot with THAT!?" "Refrigerators."

Kinda like raisedin99, I bought my CZ 375 H&H, in case the neighborhood was ever attacked by rogue elephants. Word musta gotten out, 'cause the elly-fants have all stayed away, so far. But I'm ready, justin case.

I tell people that I hunt rabbits with my .458. Just aim in front of the rabbit, blow a big hole in the ground, the rabbit falls in and you have got him.

I bought a gun once because I joined a gun web-site and everybody there said that, "No S&W collection is complete without a Model....." :)

I've never been a bird hunter. But I was in a pawn shop in Lewiston, Idaho, and saw an H&R single shot 10 ga. for only 70 bucks! (this was back in '88) I shot 1 box of ammo through it, then sold it for $75.

I've bought guns just because I was stressed and needed a relief switch to trip. It makes me happy to buy guns when I know i'm getting a good deal on one that I've been looking for. Bought a model 58 for $370 just because I needed it at the time to kill some time. Doeboy

12 pack or pistol

I purchased a .25 Lorcin from my most frequently visited gunstore several years ago. It was from a box of police confiscatons used as trade-ins by the department. The only reason I got it was that it cost $10.99, the same as a decent 12 pack of american beer!(at the time) The store guranteed it was in working order and said they would take it back if it did not function well for me. I ran 3 mags through at 21 feet, got 6 inch groups, cleaned it and put it in the safe.(with the price tag hanging on it). I call it a 12 pack pistol and tell the story when we get together and complain about prices on firearms.

This is kind of embarrassing

I bought a 645 and a ******* shoulder rig because that was what Don Johnsons character Sonny Crocket carried on Miami Vice.that was one of the sweetest shooting guns I have ever shot, maybe someday I'll find another!

I have a riding mower in my front yard " for sale or trade for a S&W" Does this qualify as a silly reason to get another gun?

Sir, except for the first one (when I didn't know any better), every .44 magnum I've ever bought was a silly purchase.

What happens is I read something (by Elmer Keith, usually) and decide to give the .44 another try. So I'll buy one, shoot it once or twice, remember why I got rid of the last one, and eventually sell the thing off. Done this six times now.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

I bought a Winchester lever action .30-30 because I already had half a box of ammo. Well that was part of it. I wanted a lever action also.

I "needed" it, of course. I'm a sucker for good, old movies. I have an engraved single-action 45LC after seeing "The Shootist" for about the 117th time. It still hurts when Ron Howard throws that Colt across the room. I've had dreams of being there and catching it saying "Thanks!"

I'm sorta relieved to see this post. My wife blamed me of nonsense buying.

When it comes to rifles, I am basically all about high precision and milking the last bit of accuracy from a good bolt gun. But... after listening to all the anti's bullsh-t about the "black rifles" I decided to spite the sob's and buy one just because I could. So, I purchase a Bushmaster target model flat-top and low and behold, I enjoy shooting it. It's a little heavy so I decided to buy a carbine and put a holo sight on it for "home" defense. Never dreamed I'd end up with one, much less two of the darn things out of spite. I just hope the anti's don't get on the fifty caliber kick any stronger than they are now. Have you guys seen the price of ammo and a good set of loading dies for the darn Browning fifty? One of my shooting aquaintances set the dad-burned forest on fire with a tracer round! That would be a hoot!

Only six times... ? :D :D :D

I can pull the wool over my own eyes with the best of them. I've been debating buying or having a rifle built in 6BR, but have yet to pull the trigger. Today I was ordering some stuff from Graf's and went ahead and ordered a set of 6BR dies. Now I have to 6BR rifle or the dies will go to waste.

If it helps any with the pain, those are Great Westerns that Duke uses in The Shootist, not Colts.
