Some of you LEO's might know the answer to this, since you use them for training. I have been thinking of trying Sim Rounds in one of my 9mm's, and I have a beater FEG Hi Power clone that I was going to use with them. Will Sim Rounds cycle through the gun, maybe with a spring change to the weakest spring? I want to try it in the 9mm, but dont want to spend the cash on a box of rounds if it wont work.

If I remember correctly, the firearms we used to fire Simunitions used proprietary barrels. This was a MAJOR safety issue to guarantee that no live ammo could be inadvertently loaded.

Correct, you need a "sims" barrel. And while they are supposed to prevent the chambering and firing of normal ammunition, it does not always work out that way. Years ago, while function testing a large batch of 9mm 3rd gen S&W autos, I managed to fire a live round in a gun someone had left the sim barrel in. It fired, and left the jacket in the sub caliber bore, while the lead core exited. Blew out the case head, trashed the magazine and loaded rounds in it, and cracked the grips. I don't even want to know the pressure it developed. Said a lot about the strength of those 3rd gen auto's though. My fault, as I should have been paying more attention, but in my defense the only way to readily spot a sim barrel is the markings on the barrel hood, and the visibly smaller bore at the muzzle. I was in a hurry and didn't notice....

We used Sim-specific blue handle Glocks. If I remember correctly, the magazines were at a slight different angle and couldn’t be interchanged with live-fire mags. Since the “bullet” for a Sims round is smaller than a 9mm bullet, I have a hard time imagining how a live round could chamber in a Sims barrel, but if it happened, it happened. Bottom line to the OP. Don’t . . .

Muss, I assure you that gun did chamber and fire a live round. I posted about it on another Forum back in 2009, complete with detailed pictures. I just checked, the article is still there, but the pics are gone unfortunately. They were stored on another computer that has since died. Never say never....

Simunition ammo is intended to fire in blowback mode only. You might be able to fire a single round of 9mm Simunition in a conventional locked-breech pistol (even though I am not sure it will chamber), but the pistol will not function. You cannot fire conventional ammo in a pistol (or rifle) converted to use Simunition ammo. That's the whole idea, so people don't get killed in training.
It's really neat to fire a converted M16 or M249 in full auto using 5.56 Simunition.
