Thinking about adding a scope for some longer range shooting and spotting (current setup is Burris 135 Speeddot and 3X AR Tripler). Can anyone comment on Simmons Scopes, specifically the 44Mag that they have come out with. Here is the link to the one I'm considering at 6-21x44:
.44 Mag 6-21x44 MT Truplex Target Turrets, Side F - SM441048 - The Consumer Link.

They currently have a 25% rebate going. Thanks for the feedback.

Over the past 30+ year we have tested every major and many minor brands of scopes for clarity, repeatability, accuracy of parallax adjustment, impact from recoil, etc., etc. Simmons has consistently proved to be one of the worst.

I have a Simmons from way back. It works well. Not sure how they are made today.

For the price, I would look for another scope. This one gets great reviews on another board.

Vortex 6-24x50 Crossfire Rifle Scope

For a low cost scope my Tasco's have always worked well.

Tasco 6-24x42 Target / Varmint Riflescope

Tasco 4-16x40 World Class Riflescope

Now, I am not a glass snob by any means. I am sure the $500.00 and up scopes have a lot better glass, better all around. I have not gotten one yet to see the difference.

I was surprised with a $40.00 scope though. I figure I could throw $40.00 out the window and not really miss it much. I ordered a BSA Sweet .22 scope.

BSA 3-9x40 Sweet 22 Riflescope

For my modified .22 it is really good fit. Glass is clear, good magnification, seems to be solid scope. I have had it for about 5 months now and it has taken 5 trips to the range with out an issue. Holds center, and easy to adjust. I have ended up ordering a second one I liked it so much. I had it mounted on my MP 155-22, but wanted to mount a red dot above and the turrets are to tall. I am going to move it back when I get a 1:00 mount.

Buzz.

The older Philippine made Simmons scopes were passable on low recoiling rifles like a .22lr. The new China and Taiwan made Simmons scope have a very poor reputation. A scope to look at in the same price range as the Simmons you have linked is the Mueller. Mueller scopes are getting rave reviews from the .22 shooters at my local range. The ones I have looked through are crisp and clear.

Mueller 8.5-25x50 Eraticator Riflescope

I saw this post on the main page, and stopped in to mention Mueller scopes. Glad I'm not the only one. I have the 4.5x14 APV on 2 different .22 LR rifles. The Eraticator is well thought of as well. All Muellers have a lifetime warranty for the original purchaser WITH proof of purchase. Good supplier for the Muellers is Mizzou Mule Guns Or from SWFA

The Simmons 44 Mag series is pretty good as well from what I have heard.

I had a Simmons on my .50cal muzzle loader deer rifle. On my first trip at the range no joke the front objective lense literally fell out of the front of the scope and rolled off the bench. It is a .50cal but the recoil is very mild (similar to a .223) because its a muzzle loader. I'll never buy Simmons again haha.

I have heard some bad things about Simmons here from time to time since joining recntly. While it very well may be the pure truth. I've also read about the many people that love them, myself included. Im on my 3rd Simmons over the years,( 3rd rifle) and so far I've not had the first issue with ths brand, and it holds zero like nothing else. Maybe I've just got VERY lucky with each scope, but as another member posted in a different thread, and linked to that there are many Simmons users reviewing the scopes and all seem to love them.

Now Im not saying its ANY where near the best scope you can get. For the price you pay it is a very solid scope( at least in my experiences) And the newest model scopes have a very clear image quality to them, with the focusing ring to eliminate that blur at 9X. All Im saying is that for me personaly I've not had any of these issues as the people that hate a Simmons brand scope, but as with anything, today could be that day. But if it IS the day my Simmons does falls apart, then it will be the first issue with that brand Ive personaly had in nearly 12 years.

PLUS here is a link to mail in rebate for 25% OFF any Simmons scope.
