Six Shot Revolver - Is it just me?

I briefly owned a S&W .357 Mountain Gun, a seven shot. Never could get used to it. Nice gun, but it was....well....just "wrong". My mind functions best with a six shot revolver, sometimes five, but over six made me feel like I was going to forget there was more than six, and I'd end up firing another round in the wrong place/wrong direction. Anyone else uneasy with more than six?

I've got several Smith & Wesson .22s and .357s, all of them six shooters. I just don't like the concept of 7, 8 or 10 round revolvers.

Yes, it is you! True revolvers have five.....

I too like six shooters. They just feel right.
I would ,however, like my Super Single Six Ruger turned into a Super Single Eight. A lot of metal for a six shot.

I don't know ,,,, theres a lot of guys who dig the 7 and 8 shots ,,Me included .

Being around guns should engender a hyper awareness, always knowing just what is going on with my gun is my job.

Six shots are the bees knees but I'd be damn hard pressed to give this one up,

I'm with you Twoguns, a revolver having more than six holes is unnatural. Besides, the cylinders are weaker.

Its all about what you're used to. I have no problem with a 7 or 8 shooter if that's what you like. I've just become so familar with a six shooter that I no longer have to count shots. I just know when the gun is empty from habit.
When shooting one of my J-frame 5 shooters I often find myself pulling the trigger a sixth time without realizing it.

I am amazed some of you can operate any machinery at all when a seven or eight shot revolver is "confusing".

Anything over 6 shots is a product of Satan.

I have no problem when shooting various autos, with capacities all over the place. But 40 years of revolver shooting with mainly six shots, and I have learned to "operate" with six. I don't waste shots with a revolver, and automatically count and reload when six are fired (or tactical reload if situation allows or demands). I guess hanging on to the concept of wheelguns, for me, goes hand in hand with thinking of them as six shooters. A seven or eight shot wheelgun does feel a little demonic!

Great Picture, Allen-Frame! I won't get involved with the "ideal" number of shots. I'll shoot almost anything that well-made - no matter how many rounds it offers.

Seven shooters ain't natural...kindda like two boys kissing.

My favorite revolver is a LeMat. You don't have to load it as often. Oh, did you mean one of those new fangled cartridge guns? I just don't trust those!

"...he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine."

Sounds like five is all you need.

Yes more than 6 seems unnatural, but it's nice to have 8 rounds in an N frame 357. Those 6 shot model 27s and 28s seem like they waste a lot of metal, when there's room for 8. If 6 is good 8 must be better.

I really like the idea of my 7 shot 686 Plus. Hey look at it this way. You ever get into a shoot out, and fire 5 or 6 shots, the badguy may think you are out. Surprise! In a CCW, or even at the range, more rounds the better.
However, when I got my 686 plus, 2.5 magnaported, combat revolver package, dehorned, it was a Performance Ctr gun. No speed loaders were avail, that I knew of. There were only 500 made like the one I bought, at that time, and the deal clincher WAS, the 7 round capacity. Just my .02.

I'm with you on the 7-count. There are speed loaders for the 7-shooters, though, I trust you've found them by now.
